Meijer offers an 11-week internship program that challenges interns to deliver innovative solutions to real projects that impact the business. Throughout the course of the internship experience, we deliver diverse personal and professional development opportunities that further develop skillsets that can be implemented both during and after the program. The internship program will allow for interaction with other interns and Meijer senior leaders.

What you will be doing as a Food Safety Intern:

The projects that will be given to the Food Safety/Quality interns will be focused in key areas of the supply chain that will give a broad perspective of Food Safety/Quality in the supply chain, from procurement to manufacturing and product development, as well as involvement in engaging projects where they can make a difference.

In the Food Safety/Quality department, you will be exposed to several different aspects, such as procurement and merchandising strategies, product development, manufacturing QA, measuring own brand vendor quality standards, and customer service. Additionally, you'll gain experience in meeting and exceeding government standards regarding facility and product compliance.

The intern may also get exposure to other activities of the function, including:

  • All areas within the Supply Chain and Manufacturing organization (distribution, manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, finance, engineering, and food safety).
  • Merchandising
  • Store operations

Qualifications:

  • Progress toward a Bachelor's degree in:
    • Food Science
    • Biological Sciences
    • Chemistry
    • Nutrition/Culinary Science
    • Engineering (Agricultural, Biotechnology, Chemical)
  • Additional qualifications
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
    • Drive for results - has focus on the bottom line.
    • Customer focus - dedicated to meeting expectations of internal and external customers.
    • Relationship Skills - can create positive working relationships with customers, team members, leadership, and other internal and external constituencies.
    • Communication Skills - conveys the right information in writing and verbally.
    • Problem Solving - Probes all fruitful sources for answers, and looks beyond the obvious to assemble and interpret data.
