Overview

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), a membership organization dedicated to the advancement of women's health care in Washington, DC, is currently seeking a Senior Director, Development.

The Senior Director, Development works directly with the Chief Executive Officer to sustain and grow the ACOG fundraising program. The Senior Director, Development is responsible for providing the strategic direction, administration, and oversight of all programs to raise funds from private sources that support ACOG strategic plan and vision. This high-value program includes individual giving, industry and foundation relations. Formulates strategies and identifies funding sources and opportunities that embrace the organization's goals. Cultivates and maintains contacts with funding entities and individuals. Directs preparation of proposals for potential funding opportunities. The Senior Director, Development helps to ensure that we have foundation funds to create a strong philanthropic resource to promote women's health. Cover Letter Required.

As a result of COVID-19, ACOG employees are working in a temporary remote capacity. This is temporary, and normal business hours and in-office duties will return to normal once deemed it is safe to return into the office. Employees are expected to return to ACOG's National office located at 409 12th, Southwest Washington DC, 20024.



Responsibilities

Key Duties and Responsibilities.

    Develops and executes an innovative strategic plan and vision within an integrated philanthropy model that supports all ACOGs mission.
  • Builds an annual operating plan to support the long-term strategic plan and to ensure that annual goals are met.
  • Leads the strategic development and management of collaborative, well-coordinated fund-raising activities with a focus on strategic partnerships, sponsorships, corporate and member support
  • Plans and implements fundraising programs and activities consistent with organization's mission and priorities
  • Formulates strategies and identifies funding sources and opportunities that embrace the organization's goals
  • Works closely with elected member leaders, member volunteers and staff as appropriate to identify and cultivate relationships with funders or potential funders and to develop leads and prospects.
  • Promotes revenue growth by identifying non-traditional sources of funding as well as novel opportunities for sponsorships and partnerships.
  • Collaborates with other ACOG divisions and departments to effectively represent our mission and programs.
  • Fosters an encouraging department culture through effective department management and specific staff mentoring.
  • Manages activities to build and grow a comprehensive master database of development leads and prospects to serve the Society and Foundation.
  • Monitors industry trends. Provide thorough, ongoing analysis of trends and market demographics, and develops actionable strategies and tactics
  • Develops and manage departmental budget to ensure desired results are achieved.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, coach, and evaluate assigned employees according to ACOG's policies and procedures, ensuring the overall effective functioning of the department, and consulting appropriate staff as indicated.
  • Supervise and manage assigned staff. Provide guidance, mentoring, and leadership. Create an inclusive environment, hold employees accountable, ensue completion of assigned task, resolve conflicts, conduct annual performance evaluations and provide professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other projects and duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Must have a minimum of 12-15 years of relevant experience. Must have five to seven years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in annual giving campaigns, endowments, and foundation giving.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in designing and implementing successful strategies for seeking, obtaining, and stewarding major gifts.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills are required. Ease and competency in listening, conversation, and group presentations, as well as the ability to write with clarity is necessary.
  • The ability to engender trust in others, to lead teams, and to be an effective collaborator, mentor, and facilitator of others is important.
  • Excellent organization skills as well as exacting attentiveness to details are required.
  • Travel is required as well as a willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed for events and meetings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Thorough understanding of donor databases preferred.
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation is an asset
