Overview

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), a membership organization dedicated to the advancement of women's health care in Washington, DC, is currently seeking a Chief of Health Equity and Quality. The Chief of Health Equity and Quality role is responsible for providing operational and strategic oversight to ACOG programs, services and teams within the Quality, Patient Safety and Strategies for Health Equity Departments which focus on improving women's health outcomes. The focus of this role is on developing strategies to improve access to and care for people from vulnerable and under resourced backgrounds seeking obstetrics and gynecologic care and improving patient safety and quality. The incumbent will provide structure, leadership, guidance and collaboration to ongoing and newly created equity, patient safety and quality efforts. They will work alongside and in collaboration with divisional leadership and staff as well as other ACOG departments and strategic partners. This role will be a nexus for innovative and collaborative efforts, to achieve the goal of improving patient safety and quality and eliminating inequities in healthcare and healthcare outcomes. As a result of COVID-19, ACOG employees are working in a temporary remote capacity. This is temporary, and normal business hours and in-office duties will return to normal once deemed it is safe to return into the office. Employees are expected to return to ACOG's National office located at 409 12th, Southwest Washington DC, 20024.



Responsibilities

Key Duties and Responsibilities.

    Lead organizational programs and teams involved in quality improvement, patient safety and health equity. Programs include but are not limited to the Voluntary Review of Quality of Care (VRQC) program, the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM), American Indian and Alaska Native Women's Health and specific ACOG programs and initiatives related to reproductive rights.
  • Oversee national grants, cooperative agreements and private funding initiatives focused on women's health issues related to health equity, quality, and patient safety.
  • Foster relationships with national, state, and local healthcare organizations to drive patient safety, quality, and health equity initiatives.
  • Develop programs to support ACOG's mission on patient safety and quality improvement programs.
  • Responsible for the oversight of ACOG member-based committees (e.g., Committee for Healthcare Underserved Women, Committee for American Indian/Alaska Native Women's Health, and other committees related to patient safety and quality as appropriate).
  • Collaborate with the Lead for Equity Transformation to ensure that health equity is addressed in activities across the organization.
  • Offer strategic, evidence-based guidance to ACOG leadership on issues related to health equity, anti-racism, patient safety and quality.
  • Serve as a strategic adviser with respect to process improvement for the reliable delivery of quality care to a diverse population.
  • Serve as an ambassador developing and maintaining relationships with ACOG members, ACOG Districts and Sections, government and other agencies, and other relevant organizations, within and external to the medical community on issues related to ACOG's work in quality improvement, safety, and strategies for health equity.
  • Monitor and manage financial budget related to areas of responsibility.
  • Create a diverse and inclusive environment for teams. Supervise and manage assigned staff. Provide guidance, mentoring, and leadership. Hold employees accountable, conduct annual performance evaluations and provide professional development opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Active member of ACOG in good standing
  • MD Degree and Board-Certified Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in quality improvement and patient safety, specifically the application of health equity, either in clinical operations or research and innovation
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in leading complex projects and teams, working collaboratively and leading through influence
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in measuring clinical quality of care for use in quality improvement initiatives
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams and projects
  • Experience working in an environment serving underrepresented patients
  • Experience with patient safety and quality improvement for physicians and medical teams
  • Involvement with ACOG at the section, district or national level is desired
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution, process improvement, program budgeting and fiscal management.
  • Demonstrated track record of hiring, managing and mentoring staff members. This involves holding people accountable, resolving conflicts, active participation in annual performance evaluations and providing professional development opportunities
  • Deep experience in strategic planning and execution, process improvement, program budgeting and fiscal management
  • Excellent communication skills-oral, written, and listening skills-and a bridge builder who can develop relationships and build trust and credibility with a diverse set of stakeholders
  • Ability to travel as needed
