Director, Quality Initiatives

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Sr. Director, Quality

BASIC FUNCTIONS

Provide strategic direction and management for American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) quality initiatives, including the Pediatric Quality Networks, Project ECHO and quality focused groups that provide opportunities for members in implementing evidence-based processes that improve care for children using quality improvement methodologies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide direction for the Pediatric Quality Networks and Project ECHO, including the development and implementation of projects and tools to assist to advance quality improvement efforts for member practices.

2. Supervise and mentor assigned staff and encourage a work environment that promotes inclusion and belonging of all staff. Ensure staff operate in a fiscally prudent manner, maintain confidentiality, operate with the highest ethical standards, and provide excellent service to members and volunteers.

3. Lead collaboration efforts with the ECHO Institute.

4. Provide direction for the AAP Council on Quality Improvement and Patient Safety and the Maintenance of Certification portfolio activities.

5. Consult with relevant AAP staff to help design and implement appropriate quality improvement activities based on population, content and budget.

6. Work with the steering committees and member groups to develop and expand QI networks to engage in quality improvement work consistent with AAP standards and practices.

7. Write and manage grants that support network activity, including hiring and overseeing consultants and preparing grant reports.

8. Oversee the project management of network collaboratives and projects, including planning groups, trainings, learning sessions and conference calls.

9. Develop and monitor budgets for network activities, including grants.

10. Oversee the grant allocations for Quality Network and Project ECHO activities.

11. Oversee the development of enduring QI resources for AAP members and staff.

12. Work collaboratively with Quality staff to improve network processes and expand network reach.

13. Oversee the content design, development and maintenance of network websites, project extranets and web resources for network QI activities.

14. Keep current on maintenance of certification requirements and national policy related to QI.

15. Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in public health or related field required, with a focus on health education, program evaluation or measurement. Master's degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE

At least six years of related experience in QI program development, implementation, and evaluation related to medical education and/or health systems required, including budget management and supervising staff. Experience with child health/ clinical QI initiatives, grant management, and medical association a plus.

EXPERIENCE

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, fiscal management, negotiation, diplomacy, critical thinking, and verbal/written communication required, as well as a solid understanding of quality improvement principles such as Model for Improvement, Six Sigma, and/or LEAN. Must be a strategic thinker and skilled in leading and developing staff, as well as promoting and maintaining a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment, with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Must be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, take initiative, lead teams of multiple partners, and collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office and statistical software (e.g., SAS, SPSS), and the ability to learn and apply new technologies to advance work initiatives; experience with data mining techniques and related software, virtual meeting platforms (e.g., WebEx, Teams), and budgeting software (e.g., Acumatica) preferred. Some travel and evening/weekend work required, as well as the ability to be flexible with work schedule to accommodate physicians' availability.

Hybrid work environment of 40% of work time in the office per month.
