Employees must reside in the following states: CT, NJ, NY, MA Job Summary The Medical Science Liaisons (MSL) is a field-based role for the Northeast Territory (ME, NH, VT, MA, CT, RI, NY, NJ, PA, DE, OH, IN, IL, MI) that is responsible for identifying, developing, and managing relationships with current and future healthcare professional (HCP) contacts primarily in the academic, institutional, managed care, and community practice setting. The MSL should have the ability to engage in robust clinical conversations, deliver clinical presentations, build customer relationships, lead discussions as it relates to key clinical issues/concepts, and gather key insights to enhance department and organizational knowledge. The MSL will engage with a variety of different health related professionals as well as HCPs across the spectrum of the healthcare system including, but not limited to, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and physician assistants in the clinic/practice/institution setting, as well as those with pharmacy departments and formulary committees. The MSL may also support market access activities within health plans and PBMs. The MSL in this role will assess changes to and understand emerging pressures on practice environments and appreciate local, regional, and national initiatives relevant to company business. This position will work to support the Medical Affairs Team and other internal stakeholders to execute the overall Medical Science Liaison team objectives and tactics. Primary Responsibilities
- Respond to existing products inquiries upon customer request
- Schedule appointments and meet with key contacts to foster peer-to-peer relationships
- Develop and maintain customer/HCP/Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) relationships across the various customer segments
- Clinical, Hospital/Institution, Academic, and Community setting
- Professional Medical Associations (as needed)
- Market Access (as needed)
- Identify new Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) or equivalent for customer engagement within each therapeutic area
- Identify customers who are interested in research, collaboration, ad board participation, speaking engagements, etc.
- Execute field medical strategies and tactics across the Purdue portfolio.
- Work in alignment with other functions including Medical Affairs, Market Access Leadership, Brand Leadership, State Government Affairs, and any additional key internal stakeholders to ensure execution of field medical strategies.
- Support activities within Purdue's Public Health Initiatives
- Support Medical Affairs collaborative research and IIR strategies
- Support post-marketing clinical trials
- Contribute to the development of tools and resources needed for customer engagements
- Attend and participate in virtual and live team trainings
- Execute the national and regional conference/association strategic plan, including the support of the Purdue Medical Affairs Booth
- Maintain a presence at major, relevant medical meetings and communicate important information back to the organization.
- Identify regional/local meetings of interest in collaboration with key internal stakeholders
- Collect and share insights to support strategy development across the Medical Affairs organization
- Document all customer interactions in the compliance documentation database
- Ability to provide complete, fair and balanced, clinical and evidenced-based information related to Purdue products
- Maintain clinical and technical expertise in relevant therapeutic areas by reviewing scientific journals and attending select scientific and technical meetings
- Complete all compliance requirements in a timely manner
- Follow all internal policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Working Practice Documents (WPDs)
Education and Experience Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in a field medical role within the pharma/healthcare industry
- Prior experience in a field MSL role with experience in customer management and HCP engagement
- Clinical degree strongly preferred (PharmD, RN/NP, PA, RPh)
- Appreciation and understanding for the pharmaceutical environment
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate via formal presentation, verbal testimony, or customer dialogue/conversation
- Strong computer skills with application of WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint, etc.
- Excellent interpersonal communication, strong personal integrity, teamwork abilities, and a customer focus are necessary
- Must be able to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a constantly changing environment
- Ability to interface effectively with a variety of technical platforms for the collection, review, and dissemination of medical information
- Up to 75% travel required; must be willing to travel domestically and possess a valid driver's license.
- Role is a remote-based role combined with required travel for business purposes.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of US healthcare systems and regulatory and commercial compliance issues relating to the pharmaceutical industry is required
- Working knowledge of clinical practice and healthcare systems settings, including a clear understanding of the complexities of the care environment in order to relate to this specialized customer base and identify opportunities for collaboration
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills, including excellent verbal and written communication as well as experience in public speaking and group facilitation.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate via formal presentation, or customer dialogue/conversation
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills are required to effectively carry out the responsibilities of this position
- Strong analytical comprehension of complex clinical data along with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and succinctly to internal and external stakeholders at all levels
