Our Clinical Decision Unit is a 16-bed Observation ED in the Main Hospital. The RN will provide care and support to ED patients with a wide range of traumatic injuries, offering the opportunity to build a diverse skill set. Our unit is a great place to gain ED nursing skills and collaborate with a team of approachable doctors. Staff in the Adult Emergency Department at VCU Medical Center are ready 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide comprehensive, specialized care for severely injured patients. VCU Medical Center is the only comprehensive Level I trauma center in the region verified in adult, pediatric and burn trauma care. We are one of only two adult Level I trauma centers in Virginia verified by the American College of Surgeons. As a Level I trauma center, VCU Medical Center offers 24-hour, on-site surgical staff, dedicated operating room space and round-the-clock access to laboratory services and subspecialties including burn, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, anesthesiology and radiology. Additionally, VCU Medical Center serves as a referral site for the state and a coordinating facility for the Richmond metropolitan area during disasters. We provide care across the continuum from arrival into the Emergency Department to rehabilitation, home health and follow-up services. We are responsible for emergency care of more than 80,000 patients annually. State-of-the-art care is available for cardiac, trauma, pediatric, obstetric and gynecologic emergencies. From orthopedic surgeons to neurologists, poison control to cardiologists, our specialists are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to providing exceptional emergency care for all types of medical conditions. Treatment for patients with severe burns is managed through the Evans-Haynes Burn Center. The Clinical Nurse II job demonstrates a mastery of clinical skills and begins to apply this knowledge to a specific patient population. This job assists the health care team with the prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort. This job recognizes changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately. This job mobilizes resources to meet the individualized needs of patient/families. This job provides direction, education, and assumes leadership responsibilities at the unit level. This job delivers and accurately documents direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care. This job safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions. The Clinical Nurse III job demonstrates clinical knowledge at the unit level and begins to apply this knowledge to a specific patient population. This job assists the health care team with the prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort. This job anticipates changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately. This job provides direction, education, and serves as a role model in a clinical setting. This job delivers and accurately documents direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care. This job safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.
