Job Description

WANTED: An experienced Business Analyst to support the development of the Spectacle Request Transmission System (SRTS) web-based application for our Defense Health Agency customer. This role involves gathering and managing Agile requirements and ensuring solutions satisfy stakeholder needs.

A week in the life of a Business Analyst:



  • Work with customers and external stakeholders to elicit business requirements and document business cases, features, and workflows.
  • Collect, capture, and manage user needs from prioritization through concept development.
  • Write user stories to support development and deployment.
  • Facilitate the gathering of business-focused requirements to support a product team and product owner in defining the backlog and ensuring the users' perspectives are considered.
  • Define and document functional requirements, ensuring business objectives are understood and verify that requirements are fulfilled in software solutions.
  • Focus requirements gathering on improved usability, user experience, and driving user adoption and engagement.
  • Identify core business needs and decompose and document them in concepts of operation, story maps, briefings, and user stories with thorough acceptance criteria.
  • Document business rules and construct workflow diagrams as needed.
  • Create and present briefings to team members, clients, and product owners to support recommendations.
  • Actively participate in agile ceremonies (scrums, sprint planning, program increment planning, demos, retrospectives) as part of an agile team.
  • Support limited testing against developed user stories and perform regression testing required for software upgrades.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Information Science, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related analytical, scientific, or technical discipline.
  • 5-7 years of relevant work experience in information technology, successfully demonstrating delivery of complex systems or products.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and undergo a background check for Public Trust.
  • Experience gathering, decomposing, and documenting technical requirements and writing user stories.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodology and experiences such as Scrum, with an Agile certification (Scrum Master, Certified Scrum Master, Certified Product Owner, etc.) being a plus.
  • Proficiency with Azure DevOps or like management tools, such as Jira or Serena Business Manager.
  • Knowledge of the Agile Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Experience in SAP BusinessObjects/Oracle DB implementation and use is desirable.
  • Understanding business analysis, requirements management techniques, and best practices in an Agile environment.
  • Knowledge of 508 Compliance and familiarity with Federal cybersecurity compliance work, STIGs, Risk Assessment, and Authority to Operate.
  • Strong self-organization and self-management skills with emphasis on self-initiation, teamwork, and follow-through.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to handle complex projects considerately and incisively.
  • Strong professional and interpersonal skills, with excellent written and oral communication abilities.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is $70,000-$90,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
