POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

  • Five years or more of successful clinical radiation therapy experience required

Education and Training:

  • Graduate of AMA approved radiation therapy school required.

License Certification and Registration:

  • Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and the State of NJ.

MACHINERY, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

  • Simulator, record and verification computer.
  • Linear accelerator.
  • Department and hospital computer systems.
  • Various office equipment.
  • Telephone and fax machines.
  • Patient immobilization equipment.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Performs all the duties of a radiation therapist under indirect supervision and provides direct administrative support for the Department under the direct supervision of the Chief Radiation Therapist. Treatment is for adult and geriatric ages.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Is the go-to person on the clinical floor for questions and concerns. Also is a mentor for training and education.
  • Prepares patient for radiation treatment according to chart directions with a high degree of accuracy to ensure appropriate radiation delivery.
  • Performs simulation on patients for the purpose of setting up daily radiation treatments with a high degree of accuracy as prescribed the Radiation Oncologist.
  • Delivers radiation treatments to appropriate patients according to chart specifications with a high degree of accuracy to ensure proper radiation dosage.
  • On initial treatment visit and subsequent visits, as outlined in policy and procedure manual, determines treatment accuracy utilizing verification or port films/digital images to document radiation placement to ensure high quality patient care.
  • Schedules patients utilizing Radiation Oncology computer system according to guidelines developed by Chief-Radiation Therapist thereby ensuring efficient patient throughput.
  • Documents simulation and treatment data in patient chart to assure compliance with radiation oncology prescription.
  • Maintains daily statistics for review with Chief-Radiation Therapist and various administrative personnel and any other agencies to assist in planning for the future needs of the department.
  • Utilizes department and hospital computer systems to accurately enter charges and other patient information resulting in appropriate billing and tracking.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned
