Summary: Responsible for the operation of the Meat Department in the absence of the Grocery Meat Department Manager. To assist with training and demonstrating staff to be safe, friendly, and efficient. To assist with ensuring the proper wrapping, weighing, labeling, and displaying of all meat-merchandise. To ensure consistent and world-class customer experiences through the superior show of quality and friendly customer service.

Essential Functions:


  1. Assist Meat Department Manager in planning, organizing, and supervising the inventory process.
  2. Assist Meat Department Manager to ensure proper pricing, weighing, packaging, and displaying of merchandise through audits and proper weighing procedures in the Meat department.
  3. Works with Meat Department Manager, General Manager, and Receiving Department to maintain product level and conditions needed associated with vendor product.
  4. Perform product stocking, preparation, and guest service as necessary to achieve department standards.
  5. Assist maintaining desired level of inventory and supplies to maximize sales, minimize excessive inventory, and note of any discrepancies in inventory.
  6. Maintain knowledge of products sold within the Meat Department and be able to respond to questions and make recommendations about products.
  7. Inspect products for quality and freshness and take appropriate action if needed.
  8. Provides world-class customer service throughout the store; use the tag line "Thank you for choosing the Market on Melrose" at every opportunity.
  9. Ensures the Meat Department runs in compliance with all federal, state, and local statutes, regulations, and company policies.
  10. Partners with Leadership to effectively train and develop team members. Acts as a resource for team members in their roles.
  11. Adhere to safety guidelines that protect company assets.
  12. Adhere to all food safety regulations and sanitation guidelines; ensure proper temperatures in freezers and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are up to standards.
  13. Assist with reinforcement of safety programs by complying with safety procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, practicing preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment, notifying upper management of any items in need of repair and of customer or employee accidents.
  14. Coordinates, collaborates, and communicates with all team members in the Meat Department in the absence of the Meat Department Manager.
  15. Participates in required trainings.
  16. Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and customer service skills
  • Solid understanding of store operations required
  • Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job.
  • Leadership experience with direct reports.
  • Ability to use technical information to solve problems
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must be accredited by the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals or similar accrediting organization as a "Certified Food Safety Manager" or will be required to attend company provided training and have the ability to achieve accreditation within the first 90 days of employment; Accreditation must be maintained while employed in a position requiring accreditation.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Must have open availability and able to work all hours of operation.
  • Provides and facilitates effective written and verbal communication to Meat Department Manager, General Manager, Support Services, and team members.

Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Experience:


  • One or more years of supermarket management experience.
  • High school diploma or GED certificate required.
  • Any meat/retail experience.

Special Requirements:


  • A cell phone is required for employment, as access to applications and/or resources may be limited unless a cell phone is used for authentication.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to provide proof of insurance is required to drive a personal car on company business.

Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to use handheld computers for orders, mark downs, scan outs, and inventory
  • Stand 100% of the time, frequently walking short distances
  • Ability to push or pull up to 2000 pounds using a pallet jack or float
  • Perform repetitive hand and arm motions
  • Bend and lift products weighing up to 15lbs, continuously, 25lbs. frequently, and approximately 100lbs. on occasion.
  • Have sufficient visual ability to check invoices, dates, and other written documents
  • Be able to handle a variety of substances associated with cleaning and packaging materials, and household cleaners
  • Frequent reaching and grasping at waist level: occasionally above shoulder or below waist level
  • Meet established volume activity standards for the position
  • Tolerate working in extreme hot/cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes at a time
