How Is This Role Important to Our Work?

The Director of Provider Partnerships, Behavioral Health position has accountability to drive strategic partnerships with key Behavioral Health provider partners that include strategy development, negotiations, collaborative initiatives and development of a contract structure that supports a transition to value-based care payment models. The Director will establish relationships with key provider stakeholders while leading a team of Strategic Provider Partners that manage and drive the overall provider relationship. This person will also drive internal stakeholder relationships as it relates to behavioral health to ensure accountability and alignment within the organization. This role will be primarily accountable for ensuring the execution of the BH Network Strategy and advancing the deliverables in the partnership agreements.

A Day in the Life:

  • Partner closely with the Behavioral Health team to execute the Behavioral Health Network Strategy

  • Develop contractual partnerships with provider/vendors who provide emerging behavioral health virtual care models

  • Facilitate and/or support the BH Team with the implementation of new contractual partnerships including strategies around ongoing outcome measurements, SLAs, consumer engagement, online scheduling, etc.

  • Support the integration of behavioral health solutions with primary care providers

  • Develop a reimbursement strategy that drives sustainability in behavioral health

  • Establish value-based partnerships with traditional and new and emerging providers

  • Ensure alignment with mental health parity

  • Facilitate the consistent assessment of behavioral access and availability and develop strategies to address gaps

  • Support the development of a network strategy for rural behavioral health

  • Represent the Provider Relations division on matrixed work teams and committees to represent the provider perspective and influence development of networks, products and initiatives that drive value and meet customer expectations.

  • Provide leadership and coaching to staff on strategy, best practices and professional development.

  • Direct a team of Strategic Provider Partners.

  • Lead staff in developing strategic collaboration agreements that drive value and ensure the various components of those agreements move forward.

  • Direct the development and execution of business plans that supports the advancement of the provider partnership in a way that creates value for Blue Cross members.

  • Lead and/or assist with negotiations, strategy and collaboration initiatives.

  • Improve general and specialty behavioral health virtual treatment options to meet the access needs of underserved areas and populations

  • Establish key provider metrics to measure performance and stratify the network to ensure our members can identify the most effective care options

  • Equip providers with performance and quality insights that allow them to improve practice patterns and outcomes for our members

  • Advance value-based payment models in the behavioral health provider network

Nice to Have:

  • Bachelor's degree or MBA/Master's degree in business or a related field is preferred.

  • Previous experience in behavior health

  • Experience in process improvement and/or innovation

Required Skills and Experiences:

  • 7+ years of related professional experience, with 3+ years of management experience. All relevant experience including work, education, transferable skills, and military experience will be considered.

  • Accepting this director level position at BCBSMN requires signing an Employee Confidentiality, Intellectual Property Assignment and Restrictive Covenants Agreement as a condition of employment.

  • Demonstrated success with the development of executive-level relationships and managing complex strategies.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively. Must be adept at formal presentations to both internal and external executives.

  • Exceptional organizational and time management ability, with flexibility to change priorities as needed.

  • Ability to influence key internal and external stakeholders

  • Seasoned business experience, financial knowledge, and interpersonal skills to effectively work through a complex organizational structure and influence change. Advanced interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively deal with sensitive, complex or ambiguous situations with a wide variety of influential people, both internally and externally.

  • Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and working as a team member in varied and complex projects.

  • Ability to work independently, to make sound business decisions and handles a variety of challenging responsibilities.

  • Broad knowledge of the health care industry, related local and national regulatory requirements or restraints, and financial risk arrangements with providers.

  • Strategic problem solver, with the ability to look beyond tactics to broader system solutions
