WHAT TO EXPECT

As an innovation leader, we look for ambitious, forward-thinking, open-minded, and well-rounded individuals to join our global team. Located in our Rochester Hills office, as a Electronics Development Engineer, this role is responsible for developing, design and testing electronic hardware for e-bike and automotive applications.

  • This position will work with senior engineers on all aspects of hardware design. This includes: requirements gathering, concept development, component selection, schematic design, circuit board layout, prototype build and debug, product integration testing, and manufacturing readiness preparation.
  • You'll have external contact with suppliers to ensure the electric control board meets Gates' requirement and standards. Internal contact with global engineering team and plant team's such as: Quality Engineer, Process Engineer, Prototype Technician, Buyer and more!
  • This position reports to Gates Technical Director for New Technology Innovation and is responsible for developing, testing and supporting software for e-bike centric devices.

Key responsibilities:

  • Implement and simulate digital, analog and power electronics circuits using modern tools and techniques
  • Build, troubleshoot, analyze and test digital, analog and power electronics circuits in a lab setting
  • Design and test micro-controller-based systems
  • Develop reusable and modular design platforms
  • Understand circuit schematics and electronic component datasheets
  • Understand brushed DC and 3 phase motor driver circuits
  • Capable of building and testing prototype electronic hardware
  • Provide input on product design and strategy
  • Work with manufacturers and internal/external customers to build and refine products
  • Work closely with the product design team to support control board design as well as support functional testing

ABOUT YOU

  • 4-Year Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience with CAE tools including: schematic capture, PCB layout, analog/digital simulation and integrated development environments (Altium preferred)
  • Experience with electrical lab equipment such as multimeter, oscilloscope, function generator
  • Understand electronic principles, control theory, and their application
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong hands-on skills including soldering and PCB debug
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Limited travel is possible to supplier facilities and plant and global facilities
  • Excited to work in the office with great teammates
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience designing motor driver hardware
  • Automotive product development experience
  • Strong project management skills
  • Firmware development experience
  • Experience with CAN/LIN bus communication
  • Knowledge and/or interest in e-bike motors control strategies a plus
