Reporting Relationships:

The Human Resources Consultant is a full-time, permanent position accountable to the Director of Human Resources.


The Human Resources Consultant works independently to support and advise assigned business units by creating trusted relationships and working in partnership with Organizational leaders and employees. The Human Resources Consultant will define, lead, and execute on HR strategic objectives.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Strategize with business leaders to identify, develop, revise, and implement strategic HR project plans, policies, programs, and toolkits to support business needs.
  • Act as an internal consultant to all levels of the Organization by analyzing, providing interpretation, and reviewing policies and other governing documents to formulate recommendations to management and employees.
  • Coach and train managers on appropriate actions for all types of performance management and employee relations issues that arise; partner with assigned business units to provide expert advice for all HR disciplines, including separation of employees.
  • Investigate and resolve complex and time sensitive employee concerns, including those that come from both formal and informal channels.
  • Formulate partnerships across assigned business units which improve working relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention; champion the Organization's values and culture.
  • Develop/maintain job descriptions, respond to workers compensation and unemployment claims, maintain personnel files, analyze reports, etc.
  • Support and administer performance management system and talent planning initiatives, compensation matters, succession planning, and deliver training on HR processes and tools.
  • Coach leaders in onboarding and employee development.
  • Support and contribute to Rasmussen's commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Appropriately manage highly confidential information and records.


  • A Bachelor's Degree is required; Master's Degree or PHR preferred.
  • 5-10 years' experience in the Human Resources field. Human Resources experience must include strong knowledge and familiarity with employee relations, coaching and employee communication.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and project management ownership.
  • Must have knowledge of HR laws and applications and a strong grasp of federal and state employment laws.
  • Must have strong communication skills in both oral and written form.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information.
  • Experience hiring, training, and developing staff
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and knowledgeable in a HR Information System.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
