Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept
Temporary clerical employees are periodically hired for a variety of clerical and administrative needs across campus.
Primary Activity A - Administrative
Minimum Qualifications from Classification
- Two years of general clerical experience. One year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents; OR
- An Associate's degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology; OR
- Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology AND one year of general clerical experience.

Portland State University collects applications on an ongoing basis for the Temporary Clerical pool. Postings are typically updated the first of each month for periodic departmental needs. Please verify your information with each new posting if you wish to remain in the Temporary Clerical pool.

Temporary employees are eligible for use of the PSU library and gym facilities.
Temporary employees are not eligible for any paid leave, health benefits, or reduced tuition.
Most temporary assignments last 30 to 90 days while recruitment takes place to fill a regular position, or for a special project. Temporary employees are limited to 1,040 hours within a given twelve months.
PAY PERIOD for temporary employees extends from the 16th of one month to the 15th of the following month, with payment on the last business day of the month (i.e., work from Dec 16 to Jan 15 is paid approximately Jan 31).
If you are selected as a temporary employee, this in no way implies an appointment to any regular status position at PSU . In order to compete for a regular status position, you must apply for that position if/when it is open for recruitment.
