The Inpatient Coding/CDI Manager is responsible for the overall supervision, management and daily operations and delivery of CDI and inpatient coding services and oversees the review processes of complex patients and development in acute and chronic disease states. The Inpatient Coding/CDI Manager must have proven leadership and management skills to promote effective and efficient review of physician documentation to support the patient's level of care and appropriate assignation of DRG's and develop action plans for improvement.
Supervises coding of diagnoses and procedures using classification systems
Monitors accounts pending coding and adjusts processes and staffing to achieve goals.
Participates in the development of staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets and having direct responsibility for adhering to those goals. This includes responding to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans for certified coders and CDI registered nurses.
Facilitates and provides ongoing CDI program education for new staff, including new CDI Registered Nurses, physicians, nurses and allied health professionals.
Prefer Bachelor of Science in a healthcare-related course of study.
Require both coding certification (CCS or CIC) and CDI certification (CCDS or CDIP). One certification may be earned within 1 year of assuming position.
Five (5) years of recent Inpatient Coding and/or CDI experience and recent supervisory or management experience with advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS Coding Guidelines, Coding Clinic, MS-DRG reimbursement and extensive knowledge of complex disease processes.
