DEEO, in a continuing effort to maintain and operate a culturally competent organization, works alongside DOTs internal partners, and liaises with the Citys Office of Citywide Diversity and Equal Employment Opportunity, to create and carry out diversity initiatives, which includes strategies for recruitment, retention, training, and professional development at all levels. The Deputy Diversity Officer will work under general to limited supervision and perform a variety of professional and administrative duties in support of the day-to-day operations of the Diversity & Equal Employment Opportunity Office. Specifically, as the Deputy Diversity Officer you will: Assist the Chief Diversity Officer in the coordination and implementation of new and/or existing programs and initiatives tied to include the development and promotion of DEEOs Diversity & Inclusion and EEO related programs related to the various protected categories. Work with the DOT Chief Diversity & EEO Officer Diversity in developing a strategic plan to help the Agency attract/develop/retain diverse talent by analyzing workforce demographics, monitoring data trends and implementing best practices related to diversity and inclusion. Conduct assessments the DOT culture and climate using employee engagement surveys and/or organizational cultural assessments and/or other tools. Establish baseline and benchmark metrics to better track, monitor and report on diversity and inclusion initiative progress. Work with Agency leaders, HR, and the Agency in an advisory and oversight capacity to ensure that recruitment procedures are equitable and inclusive. Help ensure coordination and communication among all agency partners and Divisions concerning matters of Diversity & Inclusion in an effort to foster staff engagement. Work closely with the Chief Diversity Officer to ensure alignment of the DOT Workplace, Workforce and Community Engagement goals as outlined in DOTs annual EEO and Diversity Plans. Independently prepare and coordinate events as related to DEEO program initiatives, as well as provide support for Agency Diversity & Inclusion initiatives and events. Provide training and programmatic support for specific diversity, inclusion and EEO initiatives. Collaborate with other City agencies and community groups to implement diversity and inclusion best practices. Supports the work of DOTs Diversity & Inclusion Committee, and other diversity and inclusion driven work groups, councils, or committees. Work with the Employee Resource Groups to provide input and influence on cultural awareness efforts and promote the professional development of its members.

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory, full-time experience related to the projects and policies to be studied in the particular position.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of project management and ability to drive programs that support the organizations workforce diversity, inclusiveness, and retention opportunities. The candidate should possess strong analytical skills and ability to translate metrics, research, and trends into strategy. In addition to an ability to build and maintain positive relationships internally and externally, the candidate must be a team player with excellent written and verbal communications skills. Ability to effectively present and communicate goals and vision, through written as well as interpersonal and group communication skills. Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to contemporary issues of inclusion, social justice, diversity, access, and equity. Successful record of influence, community building, networking, and deploying effective programs for diversity and inclusion. Demonstrated leadership in the creation and delivery of diversity, inclusion and intercultural competency training programs. Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations and guidelines related to labor and employment and affirmative action.
