Position Overview

In this role the Human Resources Consultant will support and advise assigned campus locations and business units on all Human Capital matters, including but not limited to performance management, coaching and mentoring, employee engagement and retention measures, and employment separations. The Human Resources Consultant will work independently and under limited supervision to create trusted partnerships across the College in order to define, lead, and execute on Human Capital strategic objectives and projects.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Formulate partnerships across assigned business units to improve working relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention; be a champion of the College's values and culture.
  • Act as an internal consultant to assigned business leaders by analyzing, providing interpretation, and reviewing policies and other governing documents to formulate recommendations to management and employees.
  • Coach, mentor and train managers on appropriate actions for all types of performance management and employee relations issues that arise; partner with assigned business units to provide advice for all HR disciplines, including separation of employees.
  • Support and administer talent planning initiatives, compensation matters, succession planning and management, and deliver training on HR processes and tools.
  • Investigate and resolve complex and time sensitive employee concerns, including those that come from both formal and informal channels.
  • Build and manage projects on key Human Capital initiatives.
  • Develop/maintain job descriptions, respond to workers compensation and unemployment claims, maintain personnel files, analyze reports, etc.
  • Coach leaders in onboarding and employee development.
  • Appropriately manage highly confidential information and records.
  • Support and contribute to Rasmussen's commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Act as a role model and ambassador regarding standards of conduct and core values of the department and College.


  • A Bachelor's Degree is required; Master's Degree preferred
  • 3 years or more of in field Human Resources experience is required, HR Generalist experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge and familiarity with employee relations, coaching and employee communication
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and project management ownership
  • Ability to influence without authority
  • Knowledge of HR laws and applications as well as a strong grasp of federal and state employment laws
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and knowledgeable in use of HRIS systems.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% (In Minnesota/North Dakota Region)
  • SHRM-PC or PHR a plus.

Reporting Relationships

The Human Resources Consultant is a full-time permanent position accountable to the Director of Human Resources.
