Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time Manager of Music Tours with the Marketing and Communications Office.

Gustavus Adolphus College is a private liberal arts college in Saint Peter, Minn., that prepares 2,400 undergraduates for lives of leadership, service, and lifelong learning. Fully accredited and known for its strong science, writing, music, athletics, study-away, and service-learning programs, Gustavus hosts a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa and is internationally recognized for its annual Nobel Conference.

The Manager of Music Tours works closely with the directors of the five touring ensembles to plan, schedule, coordinate logistics and ensure the smooth implementation of all tours by the Gustavus Choir, Gustavus Symphony Orchestra, Gustavus Wind Orchestra, Gustavus Jazz Lab Band and Chapel Choir. The purpose of the tours is to provide a multi-layered academic experience for student-musicians, enhance recruitment and institutional advancement opportunities, and serve as a mechanism for sharing the mission of Gustavus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accompany the ensembles on tour or arrange for an institutional surrogate in the event of two simultaneous tours.
  • Identify and secure suitable concert sites that will create a positive experience for concert goers and students.

  • Manage the detailed logistics for each tour including tour budget, contract negotiation, transportation, meals, lodging, and student well-being.   

  • Serve as the primary liaison with the Admission and Advancement offices to leverage concert tours for effective recruitment and institutional advancement.

  • Work directly with the Office of Marketing and Communication to coordinate the production and dissemination of publicity materials and concert programs.  

  • Create relationships and collaborate with hosts at performance venues to garner visibility for concert performances.

  • Partner with touring conductors to create a long-range touring plan for garnering the greatest academic and institutional impact.

  • Manage logistics for specific non-tour performances of the touring ensembles (e.g., Jazz Jamboree, off-campus church service or professional conference appearance).

  • Assist touring conductors with social media support as necessary.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, or related program.

  • Two plus years of fine arts management experience.

  • Exposure to budget management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coursework in arts administration.
  • Master's in fine arts administration.

  • Experience managing large scale projects or tours.

  • Experience working with students.

Working Environment:

  • Travel, up to 25% of the time, including international travel.

  • Days, weekends, and evening work on occasion.
