Job Summary Prepares and reviews electrical engineering documents for outside engineering firms and troubleshoots existing electrical systems to resolve issues for conformance to university standards.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to: reviews electrical drawings and specifications prepared by others for good design practice and NEC (National Electrical Code) compliance;

Provides electrical engineering solutions, designs, and support for construction and maintenance projects on campus buildings and systems.

Provides electrical support for the University by planning, designing, developing, assisting in construction, maintenance and operations of projects and ensures that design and construction are to code.

Inspects electrical installation to verify code compliance and to confirm that installation is consistent with intent of design documents, prepares and distributes reports to appropriate personnel.

Collects data for use in the formulation of university design standards and maintains approved design criteria and/or code compliance requirements.

Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operations, and make recommendations to maintenance crews.  

Minimum Qualifications Entry into the applicant pool requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Electrical Engineering plus two (2) years of professional experience in engineering practices and principles. A valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to selection is also required. Employer will consider advanced degrees in lieu of experience.

Level II- B.S. in Electrical Engineering plus 2 years professional experience. Experience must include at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.

Level III- B.S. in Electrical Engineering plus 4 years professional experience. Experience must include at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.

Level IV- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Engineering or closely related field and certification as a Professional Engineer.

Desired Qualifications Experience with three phase and single electrical systems of 600V or less. Experience to include, but not limited to lighting and power systems, fire alarms, grounding, site lighting and emergency power systems. In addition to NFPA 70 National Electrical Code, it is desired for the applicant to have knowledge of the 2012 International Building Code, NFPA 72 Fire Alarm Code, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, and ASHRAE 90.1 2013 Energy Code.

2. Candidate has the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering (PE) license within 2 years.
