Digital Communication Adjunct Faculty - Online

Position Description

The adjunct faculty position in the Digital Communication program is in the Division of Liberal Arts (DOLA) as part of the College of Adult and Professional Studies. Adjunct instructors will educate adult learners by teaching primarily  through an online modality with the possibility of a hybrid modality in certain regions (hybrid = some onsite/most online). The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree with extensive professional experience in creating or sub-contracting digital communication deliverables.  Candidates must be committed to a Christ-centered, Christian faith-based approach to education and be comfortable teaching within the Wesleyan theological perspective.

The Digital Communication Program description is as follows:

The Digital Communication Major is designed primarily for experienced communication project managers, contractors,
producers and digital solution providers. Students will apply the principles of storytelling and community building to various digital media deliverables including email, still images, motion video, social media, gaming, mobile applications, and graphic design for
print and digital output.  The program provides opportunity for updating working production skills using the Adobe
Creative Cloud suite of products as distributed throughout the program.  A cross curricular emphasis in presenting and
proposing, technical writing, applying research and analytics to media solutions, creative process leadership and participation, and managing production projects is included from a Christian world-view.

Candidates will be expected to:

1.Teach in onsite, hybrid, or online modality from among the following Digital Communication courses:

COM-116D Communication Lab - Digital Media (Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud resources)  1
COM-112  Intro to Multimedia Storytelling (Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud resources) 2
COM-205  Intro to Digital Media Solutions (Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud resources) 3
COM-219  Still Image Solutions (DSLR Photography, Adobe Photoshop)  3
COM-239  Motion Video Solutions (DSLR Videography, Adobe Premiere Pro) 3
COM-305  Graphic Design for Digital Communication (Adobe InDesign & Illustrator) 3
COM-319  Gaming and Mobile App Solutions (Adobe PhoneGap Build & Gaming SDK) 3
COM-405  Web Presence Solutions (Adobe InDesign and Dreamweaver) 3
COM-419  Social Media Solutions (Major platforms) 3

2.Assess and continuously improve Digital Communication courses courses as requested.

3.Develop high quality undergraduate and Digital Communication curriculum integrating Christian faith.

4.Mentor other undergraduate adjunct Digital Communication faculty.

5.Participate on the Communication Department Team as invited.


Academic: The candidate will hold a Master's degree in any communication, fine arts (emphasis in digital production) or
technology-related degree that includes at least 18 hours of graduate work reflecting the course subject matter
as described above.  

Professional: Significant experience in creating or subcontracting digital communication deliverables using resources
from the Adobe Creative Cloud is required.

Work Experience: Evidence of successfully teaching undergraduate digital communication or media production technology
courses is preferred, but not required.

Required Skills

1.Experience in creating or sub-contracting digital communication deliverables using Adobe's Creative Cloud.
2.Possesses a strong Christian commitment with willingness to adhere to the IWU Community Lifestyle statement.
3.Experience in teaching undergraduate courses in digital communication or technology is considered a plus.
4.Proficiency in the methods and techniques unique to teaching adult learner is considered a plus.
