A Little About Us

Oath, a subsidiary of Verizon, is a values-led company committed to building brands people love. We reach over one billion people around the world with a dynamic house of 50+ media and technology brands. A global leader in digital and mobile, Oath is shaping the future of media.

A Little About the Role

As a Director of Product Design, you will drive the overall user experience strategy and roadmap for our suite of Publisher products while also coaching and mentoring a senior team of high-performing designers. Our products help app developers, content producers, and website owners understand how users are interacting with their products and content through rich analytics. Additionally, we help our users to monetize their experiences through a unique mix of advertising and content offerings. You will blend world class visual design with classic interaction design principles to create beautiful products that work well.

The product design team is responsible for all of the workflows, screens, voice interactions, and interesting moments that make up our product's user experience. You'll be involved in nearly every aspect of the product development process and will be responsible for driving ideas from conception through execution and evaluation. You will work closely with a highly collaborative team of product designers, user researchers, product managers, marketers, technologists, and business leaders to bring ideas to life. You will have ample opportunity to practice and grow your strategic thinking skills as you create and execute on a short term and long term roadmap for our product suite.

Most importantly, you'll act as a servant leader who can elevate and grow our designers skills while also taking our products to the next level. This role can be based in New York City, San Francisco, or Sunnyvale with occasional travel between different offices in the US and internationally.

Responsibilities Include

  • Define the short term and long term design vision for the our product suite. Create quarterly objectives and define key results (OKRs) for the team. Drive the long term vision by defining a roadmap and implementation/adoption strategy.

  • Lead design innovation and effectively communicate your vision through wireframes, storyboards, user journeys, process flows etc. Influence your partner teams to align to the vision.

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team that is spread out across the US and globally. Identify key business and user experience opportunities and drive consensus within a diverse team of stakeholders.

  • Build a strong design culture within the greater product org by promoting design thinking to counterparts in Product and Engineering. Grow the design team through mentorship, visioning, and team development.

  • Ensure work across the team is of the highest quality and the implemented products accurately reflect the design vision.

A Little About You

  • Strong design background and passion for creating beautiful products that work well. You have experience in the enterprise space with a particular emphasis on products that feature a lot of interaction--data visualization experience is a plus!

  • Enough professional experience that you thrive in the face of ambiguity and complexity and know how to get things done across a globally distributed environment. You have excellent communication skills across all mediums with the proven ability to influence a diverse set of stakeholders and executives. Your teammates love collaborating with you!

  • Previous experience crafting and growing a product portfolio across desktop and mobile. Ideally, you have been responsible for multiple products and managed multiple workstreams. You have driven efforts to consolidate multiple products into a more streamlined set of user experiences.

  • Experience creating a roadmap and driving it to implementation/adoption across multiple teams and products. You have set quarterly key objectives for your team and been responsible for their successful execution. Your team also sets their own quarterly key objectives and you have coached them to success.

  • Solid craftsmanship: skilled in both the theory and practice of design, up-to-date on design patterns, able to differentiate between trends and emerging best practices, comfortable with a range of prototyping tools (e.g., InVision and Framer),  familiar with user research methods, and a firm understanding of user-centered design and when to apply different tools and processes to achieve a great outcome.

  • You are passionate and enthusiastic about leadership and the impact servant leaders can have on a designer's career. You have experience leading teams for multiple years and have coached high performing, high impact designers to success.
