Insomniac Games is hiring for our next Senior User Experience Researcher who heads up the research process for our large AAA titles. They're responsible for collaborating with a team to prepare and conduct studies and are expected to employ both new and existing industry methodologies, to improve the development of content in terms of usability and player experience. Senior UX Researchers collaborate with the team to develop reports summarizing both qualitative and quantitative feedback for the development team to help inform creative decisions.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads research on medium to large-sized projects.
  • Conducts usability research and user experience tests to assess user responses to interface designs or methods including site layouts, site maps, navigation design, content inventories, information organization models, error handling and icons with a focus on specific game content, balance, and usability.
  • Achieves buy-in from key stakeholders on how studies are designed and run.
  • Helps develop and implement advanced workflow processes and methodologies like RITE testing, A/B tests, and narrative testing.
  • Moderates tests and writes reports summarizing both qualitative and quantitative feedback for the development team
  • Delivers test and research findings to the development team and publisher
  • Familiar with data collection tools and defines queries based on observations, that are in turn used to generate telemetry charts for the team.
  • Develops new processes for the improvement of moderating and running tests
  • Creates surveys from templates and questions supplied by the design team.
  • Studies and reviews others' research on human factors response to current and emerging technologies, working in collaboration with the Director of Experience.
  • Creates presentations based on multiple studies, evaluating historical trends in terms telemetry and qualitative feedback. Presents findings to the team and directors.
  • Recruits fellow employees for internal tests
  • Collaborates with recruitment agencies to find external participants that meet criteria for a targeted demographic
  • Attends publisher held studies and collaborates with external usability teams.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities, though the individual is expected to guide and mentor junior members of the team.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or 5 to 7 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Emphasis in psychology, human-computer interaction, human factors or related field is required.

Computer Skills: Mastery of Microsoft Office suite of products, Google Spreadsheets and survey software such as Qualtrics and Survey Monkey.

Other Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills. A passion for user research and video games.

Travel: This position is required to travel to usability tests at the publisher approximately once every two months.
