Law Enforcement Coordinator

The Law Enforcement Coordinator is responsible for providing data, information, research, standards and program certification to the Minnesota POST Board that is governed by Minnesota state law. This role is instrumental in managing an effective Rasmussen Law Enforcement Certification Program, that requires state standards and best practices be followed according to Minnesota State Law, as well as guiding the SoJS Mentoring Program for our "Skills" Academy students.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Pre-enrollment process
    • Document Review for pre-enrollment checklist (BCA, Driving Record, Physical, etc)
  • Skills Cohort projections -collaboration with schedulers for projected Skills cohorts
  • POST Exam sign-off
  • Promotion of Law Enforcement Programs within community
    • LEO Fair, SOTA Conference, SCALE Law Enforcement Expo, Chief's Conference, etc
  • Collaboration with Skills Coordinator to ensure completion of SC duties
  • Coordination of partnership contracts for Skills course administration & invoice payment
    • Dakota County Technical College - Vehicle Lease police training squads
    • North Metro Range - Firearms range training space
    • Dakota County Technical College - Emergency Vehicle pursuit driving
  • Assist with Credit transfer & Transcript Review under POST rules & guidelines
  • Student and campus training and advising as needed, on topics to include: law enforcement employment, careers, background investigations; POST rules; program requirements
  • Participate in the Skills instructor meetings in person, via Webex, or via Conference Call - one per quarter
  • Attendance at POST meetings and conferences related to Skills programming
    • Annual PPOE Coordinators' meeting (Fall)
    • POST Board meetings & Training Committee meetings as necessary
  • New Instructor interviews
  • Teaching observations for current instructors
    • Observations for instructor development - 1 observation per course per quarter
    • Collaboration with various Skills instructors for consistency across courses and classes
  • Instructor budgeting/expense sheet for contract/payroll completion - per quarter
  • Lead the Skills instructor meeting in person, via Adobe Connect, or via Conference Call - one per quarter
  • Scheduling and Attendance documentation (through collaboration with admin assistants)
    • Course schedule for Skills cohorts (breakdown of all course dates/times in Program)
    • Attendance tracking sheet for Skills Program, per cohort
  • Orientation for incoming Skills student team
    • Coordination with Fitness Testing Coordinator on Cooper testing
    • Coordination of uniform sizing through vendor
    • Collection of student equipment needs for subsequent duty gear issue
  • Launch of new Skills student teams
    • Equipment issue, form collection, paperwork & signoffs, etc
  • Management of Skills student issues (ongoing)
    • Resolution with instructors when possible
    • Escalation to LE Coordinator and appropriate channels where necessary
  • Wrap up of graduating Skills student team
    • Certificate issue (Skills, baton, ASR, TASER, etc)
    • Congratulations ceremony
    • Equipment collection
  • Collaboration with Lead Instructors, Equipment Manager, and Fitness Testing Coordinator to ensure completion of duties

Reporting Relationships:

The Law Enforcement Coordinator reports to the Department Dean of the School of Justice Studies. This role has no direct reports.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, education, social or behavioral science, or related field
  • Have at least three years of experience with a criminal justice or law enforcement agency
