Communications Coordinator

Cooley is seeking a Communications Coordinator join the Marketing team.

Position summary: The Communications Coordinator is focused on effective communications to Cooley's worldwide workforce as it grows and evolves. This role will provide communications support to Cooley's objectives in delivering on its mission to constantly improve the working environment, workspace and culture internally, and elite Cooley brand, externally. The position involves successful partnering with marketing, HR, legal talent, technology, user experience and our legal teams across all aspects of branding and workplace development, improvement and innovation. A major emphasis of this position is communication on branding, media relations, social media, employee engagement and feedback, firmwide workplace inclusion and leadership goals. The position is part of a vibrant and global communications team, and it is replete with growth potential.

Position responsibilities:

  • Provides coordination support to the marketing department and communications team, which together are supporting and amplifying the success of Cooley's 2,000+ global workforce
  • Collaborates to deliver effective and accurate internal and external communications to diverse audiences, ensuring a well-informed and highly motivated team effort
  • Assists with internal and external draft communications deliverables including, but not limited to, firmwide announcements, web announcements, intranet posts, social media and employee advocacy posts, talking points, etc.
  • Works closely with communications team on deliverables needed for firmwide projects, initiatives, launches and other critical inflection points
  • Tracks and reports on metrics, successes and areas of opportunity, internally and externally
  • All other duties as assigned or required

Skills & Experience:

Required:

  • 2+ years minimum professional work experience in communications, marketing or change management-related capacity
  • Experience in hands-on delivery of multiple projects with audiences of varying organizational strata
  • Ability to work overtime, as needed

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Business, or related field.
  • Hands-on experience in media relations pitching.
  • Experience in a law firm or professional services environment, with a working knowledge of professional services sectors.
  • Familiarity with video production.

Competencies:

  • Ability to work with little direction, in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. 
  • Comprehensive, accurate note-taking and excellent proofreading skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, problem solve, work well under pressure and coordinate sophisticated PR programs with good results. 
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines, including self-set and multi-tasked.
  • Assertive, but flexible as to style; must be able to handle stressful situations and interact with various personalities and communication styles at all levels in the firm.
  • Strong analytic and research skills.
  • Exhibit high energy and genuine enthusiasm for law firm media relations activities and goals while maintaining a healthy, competitive spirit.
  • Experience in earning the trust and respect of high-performing senior professionals in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to develop professional relationships both internally (with department members, attorneys and professional staff) and externally (with industry/regional associations, etc.).
  • Must be reliable and punctual.
