Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites applications for a full-time Custodian to join our Custodial Services team. Our Custodians are responsible for the cleaning and stocking needs of all assigned area(s) of the property, and meeting service standards. In addition, Custodians are responsible for promoting positive customer relations through prompt courteous and efficient service and providing a clean, healthy, and safe environment for our Students, Staff, Faculty and visitors.

We're currently hiring for 2nd shift - 2pm to 10:30pm Monday-Friday.

Essential Job Functions

  • Clean public areas, including but not limited to classrooms, labs, receiving areas, trash rooms, offices, restroom/showers, hallways, and lobbies.
  • Wipe countertops and tables; clean windows; move furniture, empty trash cans; and clean furniture and decorative objects in common areas.
  • Clean restrooms/showers and scrub toilets, sinks, and floors.
  • Dispose of trash and recyclables.
  • Vacuum carpets; sweep and mop tile floors; and clean any spills that occur, including biohazardous materials and substances.
  • Operate cleaning equipment including but not limited to vacuums, brooms, mops and moping buckets, automatic scrubbers, carpet extractors and buffers.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and up to one hundred (100) pounds with assistance.


Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Report any repair or safety issues to Custodial Services management.
  • Stock and maintain organized supply rooms, cleaning carts and closets.
  • Perform job duties in full compliance with departmental guidelines, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Must be willing to work alternate shifts if required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency preferred.
  • At least one year of cleaning experience in a commercial, education, hospitality or health care environment preferred.
  • Ability to work with various cleaning agents, tools, equipment and be trained in blood borne pathogens and perform required blood borne pathogens procedures.
  • Ability to work individually as well as with others including team members, management and guests.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure and technical manuals.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and extended shifts including late nights, early mornings, weekends and holidays.


Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to effectively communicate, in English, in verbal and written form and must have excellent listening skills.
  • Basic mathematical skills including the ability to add and subtract.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to problem solve in a variety of situations.


Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job the team member is regularly required to walk and stand for extended periods.
  • The team member is required to talk and hear; to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • The team member will regularly be required to lift, push, pull, and/or move up to thirty-five (35) pounds.
  • The team member may be required to lift, push, pull, and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and up to one hundred (100) pounds with assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to operate machinery used on campus.


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the team member will use chemical cleaning products and may be exposed to blood borne pathogens. May be assigned to work in temperature controlled and non-temperature-controlled facilities.
