Job Summary

The Machine Learning Specialist I will be responsible for developing analytical frameworks and roadmaps that provide actionable recommendations for front-end reporting and support various teams and departments in enhancing student success metrics. This role is responsible for building and maintaining data models, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and utilizing advanced analytical and statistical techniques to implement machine learning models for predicting student performance.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Develops analytical frameworks and roadmaps to provide actionable recommendations for front-end reporting to various teams and departments in support of student success metrics.
  • Develops data models utilizing multiple data platforms and data schemas (Banner, Degree Works, Canvas, SQL, Microsoft SQL Server) to create relevant reports that incorporate predictive analytics into actionable data.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements, deliver meaningful information, and translate insights into actionable strategies.
  • Researches and implements machine learning techniques, data mining, data cleaning, regression analysis, and predictive modeling to extract valuable insights from data.
  • Develops and implements machine learning models for predicting student performance. Creates and maintains data pipelines for continuous model improvement and evaluates and compares different predictive algorithms for optimal results.
  • Utilizes Tableau to design visually insightful dashboards and produce reports summarizing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for operational and executive-level reporting.

Minimum Requirements for a Machine Learning Specialist Level I:

  • This position requires six years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in computer science, Data Science, or related field and two years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Experience with machine learning libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow)
  • Experience programming in Python, R, or similar languages.
  • Experience with SQL, data visualization and database management.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access and Outlook).
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and predictive modeling techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to develop actionable insights from data.
  • Experience in developing data models and incorporating predictive analytics into reports.
  • Expertise in machine learning techniques, data mining, data cleaning, regression analysis, and predictive modeling.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to the position.
  • Knowledge of educational assessment and learning analytics.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar languages.
  • Ability to compile, organize, interpret, and communicate data and results in a concise format.
  • Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to think critically and make clear, well-reasoned and timely decisions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.

Machine Learning Specialist Level I- Pay Grade 18

Machine Learning Specialist Level II- Pay Grade 19

Applicants will be evaluated for roles as either Machine Learning Specialist I or Machine Learning Specialist II based on their qualifications.
