Position Summary

Under the direction of the Vice President Quality and Risk Management, MHS clinical risk manager plans, organizes and administers risk management activities with the goal of minimizing the adverse effects on patients and/or losses to the organization. Support development, implementation, administration, review and communication of Memorial Health Services policies and procedures related to loss prevention, patient safety, patient rights and/or hospital responsibilities. Provide consultative services and acts as a resource to administration, physicians, patients and employees relating to risk management services.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  1. Demonstrates MemorialCare Health Service's core values of respect, justice, compassion, stewardship, and excellence to customers, employees, and visitors; and provides quality service in the performance of work assignments and duties.
  2. Assists with development and maintenance of appropriate and necessary departmental policies, procedures, objectives, and activities. Provides consultation to facility specific policies to facilitate risk mitigation and patient safety.
  3. Provides investigative support for activities regarding actual or alleged Medical Center liability (not including Workers' Compensation) relative to patients, employees, physicians, and visitors. Provides investigative and other support for event analysis (Root Cause Analysis, Intense Analysis, Failure Mode Effect Analysis) and support of Lean process improvement activities.
  4. Leads and facilitates facility-wide communication of lessons learned and improvements from event analysis (RCA, IA, and FMEA)
  5. Independently oversees review and analysis of UOR submissions and prepares quarterly summaries of UOR data for Leadership and committee support. Formalize UOR dashboard data.
  6. Follow MHS policies, procedures and directives
  7. Interact in a positive and constructive manner
  8. Independently organizes daily priorities and able to address multiple issues simultaneously

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience

Strong oral and written communication skills

Excellent time management, organizational and analytical skills

Diplomatic communication skills to effectively interact with staff, patients & families, as well as physicians and administration; to facilitate resolution of conflict and promote corrective actions

Minimum 5 years supervisory/management experience overseeing comparable functions

Strong leadership skills and ability to build consensus necessary

Flexibility, organizational awareness and strategic perspective required

Education/Licensure/Certification

Current licensure or certification in clinical specialty

RN licensure preferred

B.S., B.A. degree required

Juris Doctor, master's degree in healthcare, business administration or related field preferred

Certification in Risk Management desirable
