Description:

The Planning/Buyer Senior Specialist manages all planning and execution tasks necessary to support business units. Purchases materials, supplies, and services at the most favorable terms for the organization. Handles the qualifications of the major vendors, evaluates bids, and negotiates prices and terms for purchased goods and services. Tracks purchases, monitors vendor quality, and maintains a current database of vendor information. Manages inventory levels ensuring they are properly maintained for the organization. Works with the master schedule to determine order quantities, process new purchase orders, and amend generated orders to meet requirements. Assists with inventory control management activities including implementing process enhancements to streamline the replenishment function

Job Responsibilities

  • Member of the Purchasing Team supporting all procurement activities with emphasis on moderately complex aspects of purchases
  • Manages major Supplier activities, i.e., quoting components and programs, supplier visits, and assisting in engineering activities
  • Manages schedules, expedites and de-expedites orders advising relevant individuals/departments with delays and lead-times on critical materials or products
  • Manages the Vendor Management Data, i.e., ensuring Supplier quotes are current with pricing and lead-time as well as order policies and other required data are maintained
  • Assists with the major Supplier contracts, i.e., volume agreements, consignment inventories and safety stock agreements; ensures a periodic review of all Supplier programs
  • Member of the Material Review Board (MRB) and initiates supplier corrective actions where appropriate including close monitoring to ensure all ARs are closed in a timely manner
  • Manages the coordination and implementation of the ECN process with Suppliers through completion
  • Liaison between Production, Quality, Engineering, Materials, and Supplier providing necessary documents
  • Assists with updating process and procedure documents as requested
  • Assigned to support products and/or processes that are moderately complex in nature
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of company's products and understanding of structure
  • Remains current with industry trends and best practices
  • Assists with mentoring less experienced Planner/Buyers' developing their skill/knowledge through advice, coaching, and training opportunities
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Logistics or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 4- 7 years of related experience
  • ASCM (APICS) class work desirable
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize a daily workload by priorities
  • Procurement experience in Manufacturing, preferably in an engineered to order environment
  • Experience in the development and negotiation of supplier agreement contracts
  • Proficient in MS Office suite
  • Knowledge of ERP systems

  • Frequently communicates with other employees and customers

  • Primarily an office setting with frequent visits to the factory floor
  • Office is clean, orderly, properly lighted, and ventilated
  • Office noise levels are considered low to moderate
  • Factory noise levels are considered moderate
  • If required, PPE will be provided
  • May require travel up to 10%
