Modern Aviation (the "Company") is a private equity-backed platform company launched in 2018 that is focused on the fixed-based operator ("FBO") sector. The Company has been rapidly growing through bolt-on FBO acquisitions and has significant additional committed capital from Apollo Management and Tiger Infrastructure Partners (its sponsors) to continue to grow the business through future acquisitions, capacity expansion at its existing locations and development of selective greenfield FBOs in the United States and the Caribbean. Modern's goal is to build the third largest national FBO network in the United States.

Primary Purpose of the Position

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Senior VP of Operations /Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for leading and managing the daily business operations of the company, working closely with the VP of Operations, Regional VPs, General Managers, Director HSE, Manager Operational Standards, and other operations' team members to support the provision of world-class customer service in a safe operating environment. The COO will lead our team of high-performing professionals to be efficient, productive, and effective. The ideal candidate has extensive experience within the FBO industry, preferably having worked their way up to an executive role. We believe this trajectory helps a person develop a unique mix of business and management expertise, plus proficiency with the practices, policies, and procedures of the FBO industry. The goal of the COO position is to secure the functionality of the business to drive extensive and sustainable EBITDA growth.

Essential Functions



  • Collaborate with the CEO and the rest of the senior leadership team in setting and driving organizational vision, strategy, and hiring levels
  • Translate strategy into actionable steps for growth, implementing organization-wide goal setting, performance management, and annual operations planning
  • Oversee Company operations and employee productivity, engagement, and labor management, building a highly inclusive, collaborative, and empowerment culture that ensures team members can thrive and that organizational goals are met
  • Ensure compliance with national and local business regulations, and take appropriate action when necessary
  • Oversee daily operation of the company
  • Ensure business units are maximizing gross profit by setting fuel prices/margins and all other fees at appropriate levels
  • Participate in the Company's ESG strategy development and the implementation of such strategy across the business; Identify opportunities for the Company to embrace emerging technologies, including SAF, unleaded AvGas, electrification of GSE and fuel trucks, and EVTOLs and other electric aircraft
  • Identify risks within the Company and find and implement solutions
  • Oversee the audit workplace processes: implement strategies to improve efficiency, profitability, and communication across the company
  • Responsible for developing training curricula and implementing it across the business
  • Build and maintain trusting relationships with key customers, clients, suppliers, partners, and stakeholders
  • Responsible for working with finance to develop each base's annual budget and strategic plan, and maximize profitability
  • Manage maintenance expenses and capital expenditures across the locations in an efficient manner and within the budgetary requirements
  • Review, monitor and oversee growth capital projects, including new hangar development projects and ensure they are on time and on budget
  • Lead integration of new acquisitions onto the Modern platform
  • Evaluate performance by analyzing and interpreting data and metrics
  • Ensure effective recruiting, onboarding, professional development, performance management, and retention


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:



  • FBO experience is required
  • Proven experience as Chief Operating Officer or relevant role
  • Understanding of business functions such as HR, Finance, Marketing, etc.
  • Demonstrable competency in strategic planning and business development
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics
  • Working knowledge of IT/Business infrastructure and MS Office
  • Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills
  • Strong relationship builder and communicator with experience leading diverse work teams, developing an organization-wide strategy for program excellence, engaging community partners, and partnering with a CEO
  • Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving
  • BS/BA; MS/MBA is a plus



Preferred Qualifications:




  • Excellent community relations skills, ability to build strong relationships with different regulatory agencies, law enforcement, community organizations, local government, tenants, and the public



Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Supervisory Responsibility: This job has supervisory responsibilities.

FLSA Status: This position is exempt.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers.

Travel: This position will require travel to other Modern Aviation locations.

Physical Requirements: Physically able to perform frequent walking, sitting, stooping, stretching, bending, reaching, and grasping actions.
