Position Summary

The Electrical & Computer Engineering department is seeking a Sr. Academic Advisor. Candidates should possess a student-centered approach to advising as this position provides integrated academic advisement and consultation to prospective, current, and former undergraduate students. This includes assessing academic level and appropriate course and concentration selections. Further duties for this position include tracking students' progress towards degree within the curriculum, keeping student academic records current within Lobo Achieve and related UNM degree tracking/audit systems. Candidate will also assist faculty in ABET accreditation procedures and/or requirements.

This position will also assist in School of Engineering events, which may require work on at least one or two Saturdays during the year. Candidates will assist in recruitment activities to attract new students, and coordinate orientation and retention programs for new and continuing students. Advisors also get the opportunity to attend professional workshops and conferences.

The successful candidate will need to be highly organized, detail oriented and have the ability to produce high-quality results while successfully maintaining progress across multiple projects and deadlines. This person should possess the ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision and have the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities. Further, possess the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, as evidenced by the applicant's cover letter and resume. This dynamic individual will demonstrate excellence in customer service and be willing to work with teams as well as variety of students, faculty, staff and members of the School of Engineering and greater campus community.

In support of the University's enrollment, retention and graduation goals, provides direct academic advisement to students within an academic school/college. Advises on the school/college's programs and offerings, individual student plans, and strategies for degree attainment. Connects students to resources and services that support individual student success. Monitors student progress and processes academic paperwork related to program completion. Supports academic school/college goals by providing input on academic programs, delivering presentations/workshops, and training lower-level advisors, where applicable.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge of/with:

  • UNM General Education Curriculum and the New Mexico Articulation policies.
  • Microsoft office products and ability to work with Microsoft Office calendar.

Experience with/in:

  • Effective written and communication skills as demonstrated in cover letter and resume.
  • Organizing and coordinating student and/or special events.
  • Academic advisement, program coordination.
  • Experience with student recruitment.
  • Excellent customer service and team-based skills.

Ability to work with a diverse
student population, faculty, staff, and campus community.

Demonstrated skills in multitasking,
preparing reports, problem-solving, and analyzing program, university, and/or
curriculum/graduation requirements.

Must be able to work some evenings and
weekends. Must be able to attend recruitment events off-campus if necessary.
