LinQuest Corporation is seeking a Technical Project Manager for Technical Communications to lead a broad team of technical writers and knowledge managers in support of an exciting and dynamic effort for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) on location in Reston, Virginia. This Technical Communications Team is part of a broader, multi-disciplinary LinQuest team consisting of operational military subject matter experts, operations research analysts, modelers, and software engineers supporting the development and use of a leading-edge modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) software tool being developed for DARPA.

Responsibilities:



  • Develop, coordinate, and manage program-wide technical communication strategies and plans in support of client-driven outreach.
  • Lead and manage a team of internal and third-party technical writers in the development of program-wide technical software, system, and architecture design documents.
  • Establish technical writing standards and processes to develop and/or revise:

    • Documentation, handbooks, and manuals that capture an array of practical analytic, knowledge management, and other processes.
    • Documentation related to models, scenarios, and/or behaviors developed in the modeling & simulation framework.


  • Capture terms and processes for taxonomical, procedural, and workflow development.
  • Capture and organize revisions, references, tests, outcomes, and figures into a coherent narrative or report.
  • An active Top Secret clearance with Sensitive Comparted Information (SCI) eligibility is required.
  • Local hybrid work is negotiable.


The candidate will be asked to provide a minimum of three technical writing samples during the application process from the following categories:



  • Software architecture or design document (with supporting graphical depictions)
  • Technical communication plan and/or document describing management thereof
  • Candidate topic of choice


Required Skills & Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree and 14 years of experience as a technical writer
  • Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC) certification preferred (or ability to obtain Level III certification within first six months of employment)
  • Strong, demonstrated team leadership skills
  • Strong, demonstrated project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to concisely integrate a large amount of varied information into well-structured and digestible written materials
  • Demonstrated ability to convert written steps into a coherent visual diagram, and vice versa
  • Demonstrated ability to create visually appealing and effective PowerPoint briefs, structured assessments, and reports
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and managing technical communications plans and strategies
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and managing a technical writing and/or editing process
  • Experience developing technical documentation of software architectures and tools
  • Demonstrable experience leading technical writing teams
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance with current SCI eligibility
  • Eligible for Special Access Program (SAP) access
  • US Citizenship


Preferred Skills & Experience:



  • Master's degree with 14 years of experience as a technical writer
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification (or equivalent)
  • Experience working with classified documents for the Department of Defense or the military Services
  • Modeling and simulation software documentation experience
  • Experience writing for research
  • Knowledge Management experience
  • Familiarity with Joint warfighting capabilities, advanced weapons, current and future operational concepts
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance with active SCI within the last 12 months
