Position Summary:


Performs a variety of clinical and clerical activities to expedite the patient flow and activities of the department.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through AAMA, NHA, or NCCT upon hire.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
  • Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities/hospitals.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists nursing staff to assure quality health care and a smooth, orderly flow of patients through the department.* Assists nursing staff by preparing the patients for exams or office visits by taking vital signs (height, pulse, and blood pressure.)* Assists nursing staff by screening patients for general medical, and by obtaining lab specimens from patients, if needed.* Supports physician requests and nurses' day-to-day duties by sharing necessary information to assure the delivery of quality health care to patients.* Possesses flexibility in the work environment in order to promote a smooth, orderly flow of patients through the office in a timely and efficient manner. * Preforms lab testing and quality control in compliance with provider's orders and lab procedures/policies.* Orders linen, nutrients, and supplies. * Checks for expired supplies and dispose of them properly.
  • Assists in the maintenance of a therapeutic environment that promotes effective and cost-efficient patient care, and that provides for the safety of patients, staff, and visitors.* Possesses knowledge about safety policies of the office, as well as the established policies and procedures of the organization.* Works independently within the established guidelines of practice.* Keeps exam rooms and lab stocked.* Participates in the cleaning and decontamination of instruments, if indicated.* Assists the nurses in preparing and communicating to patients for tests or procedures.* Assist nursing staff in procedure areas and the transportation of patients. * Possesses knowledge and skills necessary to assist nurses in providing patient care to patients of all ages.* Participates in learning new procedures, policies, equipment, and treatments.* Possesses knowledge and skills necessary to obtain adequate lab specimens for testing.
  • Assures that patient education is provided when appropriate, in a caring and professional manner. Assists the clerical staff in assuring optimal workflow and quality patient care. * Provides instructions to patients when necessary on preparing for tests, etc.* Assists nursing staff with patient education involving a wide variety of health-related subjects.A* Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development in order to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret appropriate information required for identifying each patient's age-specific needs.* Participates in continuing education by attending seminars and various meetings.* Assists the clerical staff by answering the telephone and taking messages; retrieving and preparing charts/orders for the day and filing any papers or charts that need to be completed.* Assists with scheduling appointments as required.* Assists clerical staff by copying and collating medical records, and patient education materials.* Assists with a full range of front office operations as required.
