Position description

A postdoctoral position is available in the Lawrence Laboratory in the Department of Biological Chemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The Lawrence Lab studies mechanisms of cellular stress response signaling at atomic, cellular and physiological scales. We are particularly interested in biochemical mechanisms defining how cellular stress response machinery senses and regulates cellular metabolic state, and how stress signaling drives cell-type-selective vulnerability in age-related neurodegenerative diseases. We welcome applications from motivated individuals interested biochemistry, structural biology, stem-cell based modeling of glial cells, or genomics/metabolomics-based projects.

More information can be found on the lab website: Lawrence-lab.org. Start date can be as early as January 2025, but is flexible.

The successful candidate will benefit from a supportive lab environment and the highly collaborative UCLA community.

Responsibilities:

In this role, the appointee will both lead their own project and be actively involved in teammates' projects, immerse themselves at one of the world's leading institutions for biomedical research, and learn and teach skills in biochemistry, cell biology, structural biology, integrative physiology, and neuroscience.

The appointee will also have the opportunity to strengthen their leadership and collaboration skills by support in applying for fellowships and grants, interacting with graduate and undergraduate students, and taking leadership roles in manuscript preparation.

Qualifications:

1) A recent doctorate degree in the field of biochemistry, molecular or cell biology, neuroscience, biophysics, genetics, or related disciplines

2) Ability to work in highly inclusive teams and strong work ethics

Requirements:

Candidates should send a Cover Letter/Statement of Objective containing a description of their research interests and how they align with the Lawrence Lab mission as well as an updated CV including 3 references (contact information only) to Dr. Rosalie Lawrence at rosalielawrence@mednet.ucla.edu, and fill out the application via the online portal.
