The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Rutgers University-New Brunswick is seeking an interdisciplinary scholar of Spanish for health care. This is a non-tenure track three-year renewable Assistant Teaching Professor position. This 10-month position can begin in January or in September, 2025.
The qualifications required are: (1) doctorate or other job-specific higher degree; (2) teaching and/or professional experience related to language in physical and/or mental health; and (3) native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English. Rutgers-New Brunswick ranks as one of the top 15 public U.S. universities, ranks at #41 (over 1,500 US. Public and private universities) and is a member of the prestigious Big Ten Academic Alliance ( BTAA). Rutgers has a strong Health Sciences program ( https://rutgershealth.org) that integrates two medical schools (New Jersey Medical School, in Newark, https://njms.rutgers.edu/; Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, in New Brunswick, https://rwjms.rutgers.edu/), and five schools: Pharmacy: https://pharmacy.rutgers.edu/, Health Professions: https://shp.rutgers.edu/degree-programs/, Nursing: https://nursing.rutgers.edu/, Dental Medicine: https://sdm.rutgers.edu/, and Public Health: https://sph.rutgers.edu/. Outside of the university, New Jersey is ranked #4 for healthcare quality in the nation and has the densest concentration of top pharma hubs in the United States, together with New York and Massachusetts. This is important because Rutgers supports and values outreach courses, programs, and internships.
