Overview
The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Foreperson Grounds for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). Reporting to the Assistant Director Supervisor, Grounds this position directs the operational and personnel activities of a geographically assigned grounds area. Responsibilities include the supervision of grounds employees, planning, organizing and directing the day-to-day work programs to assure compliance with university standards.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Plans, develops, prioritizes and manages efficient and economical grounds maintenance tasks in accordance with the University calendar and current weather conditions to assure compliance with departmental standards of appearance, plant health, cleanliness and public safety on a daily basis.
  • Supervises and guides grounds employees in assigned maintenance tasks and duties in accordance with the University's Landscape Maintenance Appearance and Performance Specifications, state environmental regulations and code compliance.
  • Trains employees on proper grounds techniques and equipment as well as safety, administrative, departmental and University policies and procedures.
  • Provides support services, assists in special events and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • High School/Vocational School diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in grounds maintenance with three of the years in a supervisory capacity.

Certifications/Licenses

  • A valid driver's license and two years driving experience.
  • Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position.
  • Successful completion of Rutgers' Defensive Driving Course.
  • A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with airbrake endorsement and a NJ Pesticide Applicator License Category 3B must be obtained, at the expense of the employee, within 90 days of employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills are also required.
  • Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position.

  • Working knowledge of Email and Microsoft Word, KRONOS and a Work Management program. Various types of motorized equipment/vehicles to include, but not limited to, CMV, backhoe, skid-steer, sweepers, mowers and snowplow units.
