Training Associate - Patient Financial Services

General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is looking for a Training Associate to join our Patient Financial Services training team. Position is remote; however, candidate must be local to the Baltimore-Washington metro region as on-site work is required for special projects and go-live events at various MedStar Health locations. For this role, we are specifically looking for a candidate with a strong background and knowledge of the revenue cycle, hospital patient accounting, and medical billing.

Job Summary - Under the direction of the MedStar Health Patient Financial Services (PFS) Training leadership, as a Training Associate you will, provide training and education to MedStar Health facility Patient Access and Patient Financial Services personnel. Training and education include, but are not limited to, system (i.e. Siemens Invision), compliance, insurance, customer service, and proper patient identification. Monitors and audits various Patient Access reports and provides additional training as necessary.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with Patient Access Management teams at the various MedStar Health entities.
  • Communicates and interacts in a professional manner with team members.
  • Conducts audits of Patient Access registrations to ensure accuracy and reports findings to Supervisor.
  • Conducts email and/or onsite education to update Patient Access and Patient Financial Services personnel of changes and/or new information.
  • Conducts training at Professional Support Services (PSS) and Patient Access areas at all MedStar entities. Training methods include: lecture, classroom instruction, exercises, examinations and coursework within available test environments for SMS Invision Patient Management.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Develops, presents, and documents attendees at training programs for Patient Access and PFS Staff to enhance the effectiveness of the registration process and reduce the number of registration errors. Training programs include; initial orientation for new registrars, retraining programs as indicated by registration errors, and other training programs as deemed appropriate for performance improvement.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Presents a positive representation of PFS and demonstrates role model behaviors.
  • Promotes effective communication with a positive attitude.
  • Provides training to new employees and existing employees in need of reeducation on critical Patient Access skills and/or an overview of the revenue cycle process.
  • Responsible for the standard weekly review of Patient Access reports as assigned by the training leadership.
  • Reviews, edits, and creates training material for the Patient Access and Pre-registration/ Verification departments.
  • Works in conjunction with leader to resolve outstanding system, departmental, interdepartmental issues and concerns.


  • Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; Undergraduate degree in teaching or healthcare focus preferred

    Experience

    • A combination of 5 years total experience to include a minimum of 2 years' experience in patient access/patient financial services or a related field required
    • 3-4 years experience ina teaching or training environment or an equivalent combination of college education and experience.

    Licenses and Certifications

    • Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) or Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist -Institutional (CRCS-I) required within 1 year from date of hire

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Ability to conduct training using creative and effective techniques, and evaluate effectiveness.
    • Excellent customer service skills along with excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse audience.
    • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner.
    • Ability to perform job duties under minimal supervision.
    • Proficient uses of hospital registration and/or billing systems, personal computers including Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint applications.
    • Requires knowledge of medical terminology and payer billing and collection requirements.
    • Detailed working knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in the major (Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care and Blue Cross) payer's application billing and/or collection process, with emphasis on conducting and developing training programs.
    • Proficient use of Audio Visual equipment.
    • Ability to effectively train in a live,web and/or video venue.

    This position has a hiring range of $23.19 - $40.61
