Summary of Position
The University of New Hampshire ( UNH) is seeking a creative and strategic Senior Copywriter to join our dynamic central marketing team. This role is critical to strengthening UNH's reach and reputation through compelling and authentic storytelling that resonates with various audiences. As the Senior Copywriter, you will develop engaging copy that captures the UNH experience, highlights academic and research excellence, and showcases our vibrant community.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Content Marketing, this position will work closely with other members of the content and creative teams, as well as integrated marketers and other university stakeholders, to craft clear, inspiring messages that communicate UNH's value and differentiate us from other institutions. Your words will play a vital role in supporting broader engagement goals and reinforcing UNH's mission.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop persuasive, audience-focused copy for various marketing materials, including emails, brochures, websites, video scripts, social media, ads, and presentations.
  • Craft compelling storytelling that highlights the academic, community, and personal benefits of the UNH experience.
  • Ensure all content aligns with UNH's brand voice, tone, and key messaging while tailoring it to diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver cohesive, impactful campaigns that build engagement.
  • Manage and mentor a direct report in developing high-quality content and upholding brand standards.
  • Stay current on industry trends, best practices and key insights to continuously refine content strategies.
  • Contribute to the ideation and execution of integrated marketing campaigns.
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy in messaging, grammar, and style across all channels and platforms.

Other minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Journalism or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional copywriting experience, ideally within higher education, marketing agencies, or related fields.
  • Proven experience creating content for audience-focused marketing campaigns.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to distill complex information into clear, concise, and persuasive messaging.
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices and writing for digital platforms.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work cross-functionally with creative teams and stakeholders.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to provide strategic guidance and mentoring to junior writers.
  • Ability to "sell" concepts and ideas to campus partners.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Communications, English, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a marketing or advertising agency.
  • Familiarity with higher education strategies and challenges.
  • Knowledge of AP Style.

  • As part of a strong and collaborative marketing leadership team, develop effective and compelling communications and marketing strategies to raise the visibility of the UNH brand.

  • Create and oversee marketing strategy and messaging, including direction for and supervision of creative editorial team and freelance creative resources, and budget oversight on marketing collateral.
  • Lead cross functional marketing teams on content development, including presenting creative strategy and concept development to university stakeholders.
