As a Data Scientist-II, you will join a highly innovative Advanced Analytics team to uncover new insights from data to drive efficiency and informed decision-making. Data Scientists focus on building models to explain, solve, and uncover new information about specific business problems/phenomena, while enhancing decision-making through data-derived insights to create healthier futures for patients. Ideal candidates will be passionate about data, Data Science & AI and positively impacting patient lives, while looking to the future by exploring and researching emerging Analytics technologies and techniques. Successful individuals will formulate new hypotheses and seek new understanding from data to build solutions and capabilities with far-reaching, real-world impact.

Position can be performed remotely with limited travel

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Use advanced statistical, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and computational methodologies to deliver insights and strategic opportunities to improve the quality, patient experience, and cost of healthcare.

  • Establish scalable, efficient, and automated processes for large scale data analyses and model development, validation, and implementation

  • Proactively monitor and analyze complex systems to understand, diagnose, and continuously improve key performance indicators

  • Analyze the models that could be used to solve a given problem, suggest the most optimal model to senior members of the team for feedback and direction

  • Proficient in problem definition, i.e., able to translate business/research questions into analytical questions and translate analytical results into business/research solutions

  • Assist senior members of the team in writing statistical methodology and results for technical reports and publications

  • Manipulate, combine, and refine large datasets to produce information suitable for analysis, including verifying data quality and implementing data quality improvements, as well as feature engineering

  • Develop algorithms for data analysis and write computer code to implement them

  • Assist in developing and evolving Cencora's Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy

  • Explore and visualize data to gain an understanding of it, then identify differences in data distribution that could affect performance when deploying the model in the real world

  • Provide input into the data acquisition process if more data is needed

  • Find available datasets online that could be used for training

  • Analyze model errors and discuss strategies to overcome them with senior members of the team

  • Collaborate with Cognitive Computing, Data Engineering, BI/Data Visualization, Analytics Products, Operations, and Client Analytics teams regularly

  • Present analytics findings to other Analytics teams for knowledge sharing

  • Work directly with client-facing analytics consultants to understand client needs and develop solutions to satisfy those needs

  • Collaborate with Cognitive Computing team on pursuits that can leverage Machine Learning to enhance the developed solution

  • Implement model evaluation metrics and evaluate model performance using these metrics, with guidance and reviews from senior members of the team

    Experience & Educational Requirements:

    • Five (5) or more years of experience working with data programmatically (or demonstrated expertise in data management and data architecture)

    • Four (4) ore more years of experience in a data science capacity (or demonstrated expertise in data science)

    • Master's or PhD in computer science, math, statistics, data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence or a related discipline

    Minimum Skills, Knowledge & Ability Requirements:

    • Demonstrated ability to perform assigned tasks with minimal supervision

    • Strong data modeling and data architecture skills

    • Strong SQL skills

    • Strong programmer in Python; Familiarity with other programming languages a plus

    • OpenAI or Azure OpenAI API along with LangChain/Llama Index experience will be a big plus.

    • Experience with leveraging data in multiple formats/technologies (relational, time series, unstructured, json, etc.)

    • Experience working in anAgile environment

    • Advanced math skills (linear algebra, Bayesian statistics, group theory)

    • Strong written and verbal communications

    • Capable of researching new technologies and/or trends in Data Science, and ability to quickly adapt to new approaches

    • Experience with data visualization tools/best practices a plus (particularly interested in leveraging analytics packages for data visualization, such as Plotly)

    Leadership Skills:

    • Mentor and orient teammates

    • Partner with senior members of the team to assess project needs and define business questions

    • Establish relationships with relevant departments to understand the data and the data collection process

    • Able to take leadership of at least one project and accommodate frequent interruptions and changing priorities

    • Creative entrepreneur who finds innovative ways to overcome roadblocks and get things done
