This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to join Moog's Purchasing Group in Salt Lake City, which is Moog Space and Defense Group's high-volume production facility. The primary focus points of this position are to provide purchasing support for the assembly and test of defense products and to develop and manage supplier relationships.

Here's what you will be responsible for:

The Senior Buyer is primarily responsible for the identification of sources of supply that meet Moog's requirements for best value, on-time delivery, and high quality, followed by execution and documentation of all purchasing processes and supplier communication and oversight. The processes used to accomplish these tasks must be compliant with documented systems and procedures and US Government procurement regulations.

The Senior Buyer will develop a level of expertise about their suppliers, commodities, and markets. They will work with ad-hoc and organized multidiscipline teams made up of Moog employees and perhaps customer representatives. They must be able to work in this teaming environment, handle the project assignments, and manage their normal workload simultaneously and efficiently.

The Senior Buyer will be expected to complete the procurement process in a timely fashion. This requires knowledge of processes as well as knowledge of the supply base, current pricing, and market conditions. The candidate should expect to manage a number of simultaneous activities and must be able prioritize and communicate accordingly. Occasional travel to suppliers and customers may be required.

Here's what you will be working on:

  • Execute the procurement process, which include sourcing, technical evaluation, cost/price analysis, and purchase order generation and documentation.
  • Develop and negotiate long-term purchasing agreements dealing with moderately complex commodities.
  • Develop strong working relationships and consistent communication channels with suppliers.
  • Lead regular procurement status meetings with suppliers in support of two-way accountability.
  • Monitor supplier performance and work with Quality and Supplier Development Engineering on issues.
  • Negotiate and place purchase orders dealing with moderately complex commodities.
  • Conduct cost/price analysis in support of supplier selection process.
  • Resolve issues with suppliers to ensure on time deliveries.
  • Resolve receiving and cert problems by coordinating between Receiving, Inspection, and suppliers.
  • Resolve invoice problems by coordinating between Accounts Payable and suppliers.
  • Develop abstracts of bids from information obtained from purchase requisitions.
  • Maintain and update procurement data through Moog's ERP system.
  • Interface with Program Planning to coordinate requisition releases and resolve issues.
  • Evaluate and establish economical order quantities.
  • Ensure all purchase order documentation is accurate and compliant to the FAR and contract law.
  • Support Proposal Management in requests for quotation, supplier selection, and cost/price analysis of information contained in support of both proposals and purchase orders.

Here's what you will need to bring with you:

  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related area or equivalent experience.
  • Five years' experience working in a mechanical/aerospace procurement environment.
  • Ability and desire to learn, work in, and support a team atmosphere.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret drawings, specifications, and industry requirements.
  • Knowledge of and experience with FAR and DFARS procurement regulations.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance procedures and inspection procedures.
  • Positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed, complex instructions; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
  • Ability to influence people in their opinions, attitudes, or judgments about ideas or things; to motivate, convince, or negotiate.
  • Ability to exchange information with others clearly and concisely in terms of ideas, facts, and technical information.
  • Ability to identify task requirements and monitor progress toward accomplishment.
  • Ability to maintain relationships that facilitate task accomplishment; to cooperate and resolve conflicts; to recognize needs and be respectful of others.
  • Ability to receive guidance and supervision; follow work rules, procedures, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to systematically identify and define problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement cost effective solutions.
  • Ability to access U.S. export-controlled information

It would be great if you also had:

  • Certification in Purchasing, Inventory Control, and/or Supply Chain Management
  • Production/manufacturing experience
  • Production planning familiarity
  • Lean six sigma methodology certification/training/experience

Salary Range Transparency:

Salt Lake City, UT $82,000.00-$106,000.00 Annually

Salary Range Disclaimer

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, and many region-specific benefits.
