About the Department:
Film and Video Studies offers courses leading to a BA in Film and Video with optional pathways in directing and producing, cinematography, editing, sound, and screenwriting. The Program coordinates (and co-coordinates) a series of public film screenings and events, student showcases, and a Visiting Filmmakers Series while supporting a cohesive faculty and staff to carry out departmental objectives.
About the Position:
The Post-Production Coordinator ensures that production and post-production resources are available and in working order for student and faculty use, and supports faculty-led creative research involving production and post-production work. The Post-Production Coordinator helps manage and maintain post-production facilities, researches and implements new IT requirements and policies, assists the technical execution of student showcases and other department events, and provides troubleshooting assistance to faculty and students.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains accessible, state-of-the-art, post-production facilities for Film and Video Studies instruction, supporting student work and faculty-led creative research;
- Leads maintenance, upgrades, and learning support for Adobe Creative Suite, Davinci Resolve, Apple Logic, AVID Pro Tools;
- Works with GMU Information Technology Services (ITS) and other University offices to document and report issues, ensuring that all FAVS Program-owned systems and software meet University standards and requirements;
- Supports exhibition of student films at the annual Mason Film Festival;
- Builds and supports archives of events, student films, and other FAVS productions;
- Supports the technological needs of program's events (livestream and in-person);
- Edits and creates multimedia promotional materials for program; and
- Manages accurate instructional guides, records, and budgets for fixed assets, including reports regarding operations and use.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Experience in a post-production environment (typically at least two years);
- Relevant IT experience (typically 1 year) directly supporting end users in an enterprise or large business environment;
- Demonstrated experience with audio visual tools and techniques, which may include working with signal flows, audio engineering, and including implementation and maintenance;
- Demonstrated experience working with colleagues and constituents from diverse backgrounds;
- Ability to provide advanced level support to MAC OS users (i.e. able to erase a disk at the terminal level, transfer a system image from one machine to another, and troubleshoot network connectivity issues);
- Ability to learn unfamiliar software quickly;
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision, be reliable and responsible, deadline-oriented, flexible, and creative;
- Ability to develop and carry out details of a project once overall parameters are established;
- Ability to work with faculty, other staff, and students; and
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Mac OS.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in related field;
- Experience working in a learning and teaching environment preferred (may include mentorship and internship programs);
- Experience working with diverse students/professional crew and cultivating inclusion and belonging in scholastic, institutional, and/or industry environments;
- Experience in fiction, documentary, experimental, and/or industrial film development, preproduction, production, postproduction, marketing and distribution;
- Experience in independent and corporate/studio production;
- Software certifications in related software and general IT certifications in Comp TIA A+ and similar; and
- Maintenance of robust professional connections with film industry professionals.
