HJF is seeking a Research Associate I with Animal Science duties to perform research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. May exercise technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies utilizing animal preclinical models, including preparation and execution of studies. Supports team members on animal experimental design and best practices for animal procedure techniques. Bachelor degree candidates who hold more experience, will also be considered.

This position will be in support of the Combat Wounds Infections Division (CWID) at the Operationally Relevant Infections Department (ORI), of the Naval Medical Research Center, Silver Spring, MD.

Responsibilities

  • Executes laboratory research by assisting research investigators in animal studies (small animal surgery, large surgery, monitor, post-surgery observation, data collection at time points) in support of research studies.
  • Plans, conducts, and completes investigations under supervision.
  • Assists with the writing and editing of experimental results for publication in technical and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Performs routine data analysis and verifies and corrects data entry.
  • Maintains records and documentation regarding assigned research.
  • Documents current or new procedures or protocols for sample selection, data collection, data processing, and/or statistical estimation.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
  • Good communication skills and able to work within a team structure.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree required, preferably in life science.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years' experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of complex laboratory procedures.
  • Ability to meet deadlines of projects.
  • Good communication and analytical skills.
  • Previous animal model experience is a plus.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $50,100 - $65,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
