HJF is seeking a Scientist I develop and conduct research projects. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products, and problems. Develops new technologies and protocols.

This position will be in support of the department of pathology at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. The incumbent will be working on projects related to development of biomarkers and therapeutics for traumatic brain injury. The incumbent will work on a variety of in vitro and in vivo experiments on research related to traumatic brain injury biomarker and therapeutic development. Research may involve working with animal models, tissues and human clinical samples to analyze the microRNA and protein based biomarkers digital PCR and ELISA. Responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team. Performs research under the supervision of the principal investigator. Performs data analysis, compilation of results and develops drafts of manuscript.

Note: This work site requires that Non-US Citizen incumbents have lived in the US three out of the past five years.


Responsibilities

  • Processes and interprets experimental data. Formulates experimental hypotheses and designs experimental protocols.
  • Makes scientific observations, maintains detailed workbooks/documentation, and ensures documentation fulfills generally accepted professional/industry standards.
  • Coordinates and contributes to new grant and funding applications.
  • Trains and supervises laboratory technicians, as needed.
  • Prepares written reports and manuscripts for submission to scientific journals.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Doctorate Degree required.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have knowledge of molecular biology techniques such as PCR, DDPCR, Immunohistochemistry, cell culture, ELISA, western blot etc.
  • Ideally should independently analyze data using statistical models using R or GraphPad prism or SPSS.
  • Knowledge of applicable complex scientific procedures and techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and supervise others.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $73,800-$80,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.

Security Requirements: Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust Investigation.
