Evanston, IllinoisAdd to Favorite Jobs Email this Job The School of Education and Social Policy (SESP) at Northwestern is seeking an assistant professor of education, with an emphasis on either the history or philosophy of education. SESP is an interdisciplinary school focused on understanding teaching, learning, human development, and policy across the lifespan and at different scales. Applicants with degrees in education, history, or philosophy are most desired. Potential areas of research interest include the history of educational policy or educational policy movements, the intersections between historical movements and current educational policies, the ways that ideologies drive school decision making or legislative actions, the future of civics education, the intersections of the humanities and social, political, or economic policy, the intersections of law, policy, and ideologies or histories, the history or philosophy of technology in education, or the history of education as it relates to broader equity movements. It is important to see implications in research trajectories that focus on the intersections between policy and practice. Candidates must have the capacity to teach both undergraduate and graduate students in broad survey courses of either history or philosophy of education, teach a methods course related to either history or philosophy, and be an engaged partner for faculty across Northwestern or with local school districts. Having an explicit connection to the role of civics and education is desirable. The expected base pay range for this position is $100,000-107,000 This base pay range is for a nine-month academic appointment, does not include summer salary, and is subject to negotiation. Research discretionary funding will also be provided. Summer salary, including from sponsored projects, may also be available. Northwestern University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
