Temple University's College of Public Health seeks an Academic Advisor I to serve in the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Scienes. They will advise students on all areas related to their degree completion and retention, including, but not limited to, academic progress and plans, appropriate course schedules, choice of major, academic standing concerns (i.e. probation, warning), policies and processes, and understanding of curricular requirements.

The Advisor I's primary responsibility is to meet regularly with assigned students on an individual or group basis. The Advisor I conducts academic audits of students' records. The Advisor I provides effective student-centered service aligned with the expectations of the unit and advising standards (as reflected in NACADA core competencies). The advisor acts as an advocate and referral source, providing outreach and follow up services. The Advisor I accurately and thoroughly documents student contacts. The incumbent maintains accurate and thorough student records.

As part of a team of Advisors, the Advisor I prepares and presents at orientations, a variety of workshops, and group advising sessions. The Advisor I supports the undergraduate unit's initiatives, programs, and goals via outreach, programs, and services to students.

The unit strives to empower students to understand the meaning and purpose of higher education and foster their educational, personal, and professional development toward academic success and lifelong learning. While the Academic Advisor is focused on a specific discipline, they are also part of a diverse team of advising colleagues across the College.

Essential functions:
*The Academic Advisor provides accurate, detailed and comprehensive academic advising to students in the College of Public Health and assists them in making decisions affecting their academic progress.

*The Academic Advisor provides administrative counsel and personal guidance by interpreting the relevant academic policies and guidelines for the University and College and by offering an objective analysis of students' academic records and academic and professional goals.

*Academic Advisors are expected to respect the diversity of our students, not only in terms of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and political views, but also in terms of their career aspirations.

*These services are geared to achieving, maintaining, or improving student success. The Academic Advisor works closely with faculty and staff and meets with students on an individual and group basis to discuss and disseminate information regarding curriculum requirements, academic policy, and other issues as they arise.

*The Academic Advisor also maintains academic records, reviews, and evaluates transcripts and interprets relevant University policy as appropriate.

*The Academic Advisor assists in coordinating New Student Orientation, conducting graduation clearances, and will provide direct advising services during New Student Orientation.

*Supports students' progress, retention and timely graduation; provides services and programs aimed at student success and goal achievement.

*Conducts academic audits related to student progress and registrations

*Adheres to and effectively communicates university and college policies and procedures.

*Maintains accurate and thorough student records.

*Maintains confidential information and records.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and three (3) years' experience. Master's Degree preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:
*Ability to advise, assess and evaluate curricular needs for students to ensure correct development towards graduation standards.
*Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills; along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff.
*Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
*Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
* The ability to refer students to appropriate support services available through Temple University (e.g. Student Success Center, CARE Team, Tuttleman Counseling, Cherry Pantry etc.) when necessary
*Ability to prioritize well and focus on completion of tasks and objectives while under stress of demanding work schedule.
*Knowledge and use of personal computers for internet research and database management.
*Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred:
*An understanding of and interest in all the health and social work disciplines offered by the College of Public Health, specifically Health Professions.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
