The Patient Care Imaging Assistant is responsible for assisting the Radiologists/Technologist by providing patient care activities including preparation for radiology procedures and preparing images for interpretation by the Radiologist. Practices high quality medical care in performing a variety of patient care activities such as patient preparation, transporting to/from exam rooms, stocking supplies, patient history documentation, and scheduling continued care. Job Relationships Reports to the Advanced Imaging Operations Manager Principal Responsibilities
- To maintain optimum patient flow, works closely with technologist to prepare exam rooms and patients for procedure:
- Prepares scanning rooms for patient exams, including cleaning, disinfects and/or sterilizing coils and equipment, stocking supplies. Maintains departmental logs assuring adherence to DMG Safety/OSHA cleaning standards.
- Escorts patients to/from scanning rooms and assists in obtaining pertinent information, which may include obtaining weight, height, medical history, medications, reason for visit and patient symptoms.
- Communicates pending pre-certification information issues with technologists and Radiology management.
- Collect information from labs and surgery/implant reports
- Based on need and direction, provides patients with after exam instruction and exam media.
- Schedule continued care procedures using Radiology Information System. Verify insurance eligibility. As needed, explain patient prep and dispense prep kits and schedule interpreter services.
- Under the direction of the Technologist, assists with positioning, lifting of patients, and contrast preparation.
- Places EKG leads for certain cardiac related exams.
- May assist with setting up coils or phantom handling.
- Carries out CPR in patient emergent situations.
- Practice safe blood and body fluid management.
- Complete order process in Radiology Information System.
- Able to function efficiently using PACS, RIS, and IDX (including chart tracking).
- Use the Electronic Health Record to gather patient history for technologist.
- Provides appointment reminder calls to Radiology patients.
- Use of computers and telephone required.
- Demonstrate professional behavior with patients and employees.
- Maintain positive attitude in working to achieve department goals.
- Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
- Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.

Education/Experience
- High School graduate or GED required. One-year training in medical office; recent ambulatory care experience preferred.
Licenses/Certificates * Current CPR per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Working Environment
- Occasional heavy lifting required.
- Will be exposed to fumes from cleaning agents or x-ray film processor chemicals, in limited areas.
- Will be exposed to conditions including exposure to blood and body fluids, tissue, contagious diseases and/or potentially hazardous materials.
- Travel to other sites may be required.
