Job Summary
Hunger Solutions Institute ( HSI) in the College of Human Sciences seeks an Outreach Programs Administrator I/II to coordinate program operations and support development and growth of grant-funded food access program(s). This position will oversee implementation and expansion of Double Up Food Bucks Alabama and Add Milk. Double Up Food Bucks Alabama seeks to increase the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables by low-income consumers participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program ( SNAP). Add Milk seeks to increase the purchase of healthy fluid milk (skim and 1%) by low-income consumers participating in SNAP. This position will involve managing relationships with farmers market, grocery store, farm stand, community supported agriculture (CSAs) managers and other organizational stakeholders as well as providing technical assistance for implementation, program improvements, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
HSI was established by the College of Human Sciences and the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station at Auburn University in February 2012. A foundational principle of HSI is that hunger is a solvable problem, but only when the relevant knowledge from all academic disciplines is combined with the abilities and strengths of all sectors. HSI seeks to leverage collective efforts to promote development, adoption, and advancement of innovative, best practices to address food and nutrition security.

Essential Functions

  • Support coordination of day-to-day operations of grant-funded food access programs, including assisting with activities to accomplish work plans; answering daily emails from partners and potential program participants; meeting with Outreach Program Manager and food access program team; collaborating and meeting with partners, participating sites, and funders, etc.; maintaining accurate and up-to-date records; attending virtual and/or in-person events
  • Assist partners and participating sites in complying with state and federal guidelines; develop training and technical assistance resources; and provide training and technical assistance during site visits and/or virtually
  • Monitor overall budget spending and manage reimbursements and/or invoice payments to partners, participating sites, and vendors using Microsoft Excel and Auburn University payment systems
  • Support university partners in designing, implementing, analyzing, and reporting program evaluation

Minimum Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications
Level I :Bachelor's degree in a related field
Level II: Bachelor's degree in a related field plus 2 years of experience in the design, implementation, delivery and management of educational programs/services

Substitution allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications


Minimum Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Commitment to the mission of improving access to healthy food for low-income consumers

Minimum Technology Skills
  • Knowledge of desktop computer operations, Microsoft Office, and data management software
Minimum License and Certifications

  • Valid Driver's License and personal vehicle for travel between sites
  • Ability to complete CITI training within 60 days of hire

Experience in program management, preferably non-profit, public sector, retail or local food settings; experience with food assistance programs or food retail is highly desirable; strong organizational and project management skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficiency in data analysis and grant management; strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders; understanding of SNAP benefits and food retail; familiarity with state and federal regulations related to food assistance programs; knowledge of community outreach
