Overview

Now hiring a Patient Care Assistant

Transport patients between clinical and non-clinical departments and nursing units. Transport patients needing admission, surgical and procedural services, inter-unit department transfers, or discharge from facility. Provide observation and companionship to appropriate hospitalized patient. Assist and provide basic ADLs as appropriate and directed. Provide general support for the operation of a nursing department including assuring availability of supplies and equipment as pertaining to transport.

Ideal Candidate:

Less than 1 year experience in hospital setting and patient transport.



Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma/GED
  • BLS Certification required at the time of hire.
  • Receives on-the-job training and competency verification to perform primary functions.


Responsibilities

  • Maintain established departmental policies, procedures and expectations.
  • Maintains established medical therapies to include, but not limited to: Oxygen, IVs, restraints, catheters, isolation precautions, etc. during transport and notifies nursing staff immediately if medical equipment alarms.
  • Responsible for effective communication between patients, families, healthcare team members and Presbyterian Care Connection (PCC).
  • Retrieve, store and transport oxygen cylinders according to hospital policy.
  • Follows assigned priority as directed for admission, discharge, surgical and procedural services and transfer activity via correct mode of transport to include but not limited to: Wheelchairs, stretchers/gurney, bed and bariatric bed.
  • Assist with patient transfers from hospital units to other units in and out of the facility.
  • Utilize automated processes within the bed tracking system to notify PCC of patient activity and work closely with PCC on patient flow and effective facility movement.
  • Gather monitors and other essential equipment pertinent to transport from within facility to ensure equipment is available when needed.
  • Deliver malfunctioning equipment to Maintenance for repair.
  • Provide safety and security monitoring for assigned patients. Alerts nursing staff of changes in patient condition as directed and respond to patient call lights as needed.
  • Assist with mobility and ambulation as needed for patient transport purposes.
  • Assist with organizational upgrades and adapt to facility changes.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all healthcare information.
  • Deliver specimens between Laboratory, Pathology and inpatient units. Transports x-rays and equipment.
  • Perform basic clerical duties such as answering phones, printing and handling all necessary paperwork for transport and taking messages.
  • Participate in educational programs, in-service meetings and departmental meetings as required.
  • Function as an effective team member in a highly physical role.
  • Other duties as assigned.
