Job Description

The Eielson Range Controller (ERC) is the central point of contact for all activity within Joint Pacific Alaska Range Complex JPARC North air and range spaces and is a critical function of the JPARC. This position directly supports execution of Major Flying Exercises (MFEs) and daily combat training in the JPARC Special Use Airspace (SUA). This support includes managing the SUA schedule real time and monitoring radio frequencies and participants during JPARC flight operations. The position is expected to contribute at Subject Matter Expert level to enhance and advance the combat training during local training missions and MFE such as RED FLAG Alaska. Selected candidates will facilitate combat training by providing airspace management activities for assigned participants and airspace.




      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      The duties and requirements of this position include but are not limited to the following:



      • Establish and maintain radio contact with aircraft within designated airspaces, per instructions and/or local procedures
      • Act as central POC during emergencies, incidents, and mishaps until the appropriate Government representative assumes control
      • Be responsible for making same day schedule changes that include but are not limited to MTRs, MOAs/Air Traffic Control Assigned Airspace (ATCAAs), Air Refueling (AR) Tracks 719 & 720 and Restricted Areas
      • Have same-day authority to implement requested changes to current-day flight schedules as prepared and delivered by the customer
      • Compile next day's flying schedule inputs , draft into schedule documents, and distribute via electronic means to the stipulated agencies and personnel
      • Maintain awareness of ground parties' position and their movements within designated air/ground spaces
      • Deconflict as required, activities and occupants of ground and airspace to ensure safety and mission effectiveness.
      • Communicate with multiple external agencies to perform the Range Control function
      • Contact appropriate agencies as required by provided Emergency Notification Checklist and assist the Government in any National Incident Management System (NIMS) incidents, accidents, or occurrences.
      • Create, submit, and maintain all required reports
      • Other tasks as assigned



      MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:



      • Minimum Associate degree, Bachelor's Degree desired
      • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in operating computers and peripheral equipment
      • US Citizen // Secret Clearance or ability to obtain one is required
      • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and be physically able to site, stand, kneel and climb
      • Proof of the COVID-19 vaccination is required; except where an employee is legally entitled to an accommodation
      • Must possess a valid driver's license
      • Ability to speak, read, and write English



      COMPETENCIES:

      To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position.



      • Experience in Air Traffic Control, Radar Approach Control, or Flight Service highly desired
      • Operational experience with combat aircraft training integration
      • Familiarity with different types of Special Use Airspace including restricted, prohibited, Military Operating Areas, Warning Area, Alert Area, and Temporary Flight Restrictions
      • Must demonstrate the ability to clearly and accurately communicate with airborne aircraft via UHF/VHF radios
