About the role

At Mead Johnson Nutrition, we live a "Safety First, Quality Always" mindset that supports everything we do. We are currently in need of a Sr. Project Engineer that will be responsible for executing a wide range of engineering based projects within our Zeeland based manufacturing operations and facilities. This individual will be joining a team of intelligent, enthusiastic and considerate individuals that help feed infants across the globe.

Due to the variety of projects that our team handles, this position requires a broad engineering background and willingness to learn and adapt or lead in a changing environment. Solid project management skills and experience are expected, along with flexibility to adapt based on need. Your projects will vary based on overall need or priority, and ranging from $50,000 to $1M+ in total spend.

Because Infant Formula is a highly regulated food product, it is very important in our business to excel at GMP standards and to work collaboratively with internal and external resources to obtain these goals. Work performed in our manufacturing environment is expected to surpass typical food manufacturing requirements. MJN prides itself in being an industry leader in the infant nutrition category and considerable capital investment is utilized to maintain our position.

Your responsibilities

  • Leads teams in the development, design and implementation of capital projects for the site business while effectively balancing stakeholder needs in terms of scope, budget and timeline.
  • Partners with local stakeholders, management and teams to manage and deliver capital and technical projects that support business priorities in our manufacturing facility.
  • Utilizes engineering techniques, project management principles, risk analysis and previous experience to develop creative, innovative, and fast-paced solutions to project engineering issues in design, cost, schedule and scope.
  • Understands and assures compliance with all applicable safety rules, building codes and regulatory requirements and internal standards.
  • Demonstrates the ability to connect and collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders to deliver projects within the defined scope and timeframe.
  • Exhibits highly effective project leadership skills, self-confidence, decision making skills and actively promotes an inclusive team environment.
  • Tracks, manages and communicates capital budget spend and progress to key stakeholders, managers and leaders.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assess risk and develop contingency plans to mitigate risks.
  • Strives for personal continuous improvement by learning from successes and mistakes, and seeking to proactively build knowledge.
  • Competent in delivering influential project based presentations to key stakeholders and leaders.
  • Position is based in our Zeeland facility with minimal travel expectations

The experience we're looking for

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Chemical or related Engineering field and a minimum of 10 years managing capital engineering projects.
  • 10 years minimum experience working in a manufacturing environment as an engineer or related position.
  • Experience in Food, Powder, or Pharmaceutical Engineering is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and implement capital projects with multidisciplinary teams of diverse people in multicultural environments.
  • Experience managing and directing skilled contractors and professional engineering/consulting firms.
  • Experience managing the financial aspect of Capital projects from conceptual design to closeout.
