Purpose Statement / Position Summary
The Buyer position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of MemorialCare Health System (MHS). The team member shall support the MemorialCare strategic plan, and participate in, and advocate LEAN concepts in performance improvement activities.
The Buyer participates in the cost-effective management of supplies and equipment from acquisition through disposition in accordance with the MemorialCare Administrative, Finance and Material Resources policy and procedures and Contracting strategy. The position is responsible for sourcing and procurement of supplies, equipment and services for all requestors and related functions.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
1. Receives requisitions verifies that they possess proper administrative approvals.
2. Places orders with suppliers which offer the most favorable pricing consistent with quality, quantity, contract obligations, service and delivery time and consistent with MHS Contracting strategy
3. Performs necessary follow-up between departments and vendors
4. Problem-solves effective resolution of vendor performance problems and invoice-purchase order errors
5. Ensures respective company policy, procedures and standard work compliance
6. Demonstrates superior customer service attitude; interacts with a positive and constructive approach
7. Prioritize and multitask
8. Performs work that is varied and difficult in character
9. Evaluation, originality, and ingenuity is required
*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Experience
Database and spreadsheet proficiency is required
Strong remote (electronic, voice) customer service skills, experience required
Demonstrated English grammar, spelling and internal/external business-level correspondence proficiency
Minimum three years' experience in a healthcare medical purchasing environment with heavy emphasis on ability to analyze price/costs on a wide range of products and services required
Must possess a thorough understanding of purchasing methods and procedures; must understand and adhere to the laws governing all purchasing transactions
Prior experience with computerized purchasing/inventory management systems required
Education
AA or bachelor's degree in business administration, Economics, or a closely related field is desired.
