The Department of Linguistics at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey - New Brunswick invites applications for a tenure-track position in Linguistics with a focus on Semantics and Pragmatics, at the level of Assistant Professor. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The position will begin on September 1, 2025.
The successful candidate will be engaged in a rich and productive research program in semantics, with the additional option of pragmatics, which contributes to the breadth and depth of our department. The candidate will teach and advise students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels on a regular basis in semantics and pragmatics, areas that interface with them, and general linguistics; and will perform scholarly service for the benefit of the department, university, and field.

Applications should include a cover letter (2 pages maximum) that indicates how the candidate's profile and research program compliments and expands the current faculty and areas of expertise represented in our department, a CV, a research statement (5 pages maximum), a statement of teaching philosophy (2 pages maximum), teaching evaluations (unabridged), 4 (maximum) samples of research papers, 3-4 (4 maximum) letters of reference, and (optional) a statement outlining the candidate's efforts and commitment to supporting diversity and inclusivity in linguistics and the university (2 pages maximum). The cover letter should include the names, affiliations, and email addresses of the applicant's letter writers.

Immunization Requirements
Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply.
